Has anyone tried "Archoil" NanoBorate AR9100 (Oil Additive)?

Has anyone tried this oil additive in an air cooled motor? It looks promising (but so do all spec sheets for oil additives claiming to reduce friction and heat). According to their website and attached data it works as well/if not better than Zinc/ZDDP and will not harm catalytic converters. I'm switching to Brad Penn from Valvoline VR-1 but would like to save my cats if possible (1987 Targa 3.2) and this looks like it might be a solution (although not a cheap one if continued every oil change). Other than their website there really isn't much on the company at all online (kinda suspicious IMO).

It was recently on Jay Leno's garage and supposedly his mechanic swears by the stuff.

Seems like a great money spinner.

Potassium Triborate has been used as an additive for a while now and I am sure used correctly it has some benefits as the chemistry seems to add up.

It has been shown, however, that for concentrations less than 0.5% and more than 2% increased wear can occur at least when tested with ball and pin test equipment.

I think I will wait until the major oil companies and car makers such as BMW/Mercedes put it on their 'approved' list.

Thanks for the reply Chris,

If anyone's interested I found an article that explains the chemistry.

I also ran across the jay Leno garage video which peaked my interest but have not found much support as to its effectiveness. Would like to hear from our oil experts if this type of additive is beneficial for our 25 + year old Porsches that generally consume oil. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part.

Actually, the car benefits from the addition of oil to the oil.

Just keep a good oil with the proper amount of ZDDP in the tank, and at the proper level. Worry instead about gearbox oil.

I just use good oil and change it on a regular basis. I hardly put 5K miles in per year.

Figured that would be the case. I'm using mobile one now which seems to be an improvement over vr1. Keep hoping for a miracle additive to restore my valve guides.

I use ARCHOIL 9100 AND 6200, in my '06 Silverado and it starts faster, runs cooler, and my mileage went from 10.0 in the city to 13.33, and on the highway went from, 13.4 to 17.56! Whats wrong with that???

John

A 33% improvement if fuel consumption in the City and 31% on the highway by just putting 'nano-boron' into your oil just beggars belief.

Have you any your colleagues who make this wonder treatment made any real friction measurements of your engines that can show how this improvement occurs.

I am surprised that the Federal Government doesn't make this additive mandatory as it seems you could make a significant dent in global warming if these efficiency improvements are measurable and repeatable and the impact on the balance of trade for countries importing oil would be fantastic.

Maybe this is the reason why the oil price is falling?

I guess in a previous life we would have called this additive Colloidal Borax or Potassium Tetraborate which has been used and an additive in gear lubrication for many years.

It is also used as a brazing flux.

Where in upstate NY? Must have been -18 at my home near Speculator, NY.

The Fed Govt. makes enough things mandatory!
