dual in/out sport muffler

I have some questions about this muffler here - pic lifted from wayne's parts express site...I missed the special offer Wayne - I cried.

1) Who makes it - and where - the reason I ask is that I pay no duty on US made parts.

2) Just how loud is this thing - does anyone on the board run one on the street?

3) What is it made of - is it going to last if I keep it clean?

4) Will it fit on my impact bumper car?

Thanks for the help guys.

First off - if the special you were referring to was the Pelican Parts Express Great Sell-It-At-Cost Extravaganza - don't cry. It only applied to non-Pcar imports.

I have a 2in-2out sport muffler similar to the one offered by Pelican Parts on my 2,2S motor. Although not exactly the same, the results should be similar.

1) Who makes it - and where - the reason I ask is that I pay no duty on US made parts.

Although not the same, my muffler was a modified Dansk - therefore the base muffler was not made in the USofA. The picture appears to be a similar modified imported muffler although I could be wrong. Don't know if this would avoid the duty issue or not, but if it is that important you may be able to locate a totally US built one. Why not ask Wayne if he can get ahold of what you need?

2) Just how loud is this thing - does anyone on the board run one on the street?

Well - the neighbors nicknamed my car the hornet, and I try really hard not to disturb the neighborhood by keeping the rpm's down. On the other hand, I get a perverse sense of glee setting off the alarms on all the BMS's parked in the parking garage here at work. Some people have been dissapointed due to the large amount of loud these things produce - it would be a good idea to seek out someone local who may have one so you can hear before you buy.

3) What is it made of - is it going to last if I keep it clean?

Mine is standard non-stainless steel with chrome tips, and will last as long as a normal one. All stainless ones are available.

4) Will it fit on my impact bumper car?

Don't know on this - my car is pre-impact bumpers and was modified prior my acquiring it. See pic below.

I have one and I love it. It is loud, but not too loud. I live in a city that made it a violation for Harleys to run straight pipes and have never even been given a second look by the cops.
An older business man in my complex says it sounds like an old piper airplane. I have to sort of agree. Very ralley car/race car sounding.

Mine is made of regular steel. I painted it with high temp paint that bakes on when after about an hour of running the car. It will last as long as any other steel muffler.

FWIW, in BA's The Handbook, he notes a 8 -12 HP increase with this Sport muffler. I think this is about correct as there is a noticeable difference from my previous two in one out OEM muffler.

Here are a couple pic that show the clearance. It will not fit with the OEM valance w/o modification.

And here is a pic after paint. The multiple pic load will not work.

I have a Tesh muffler from regular steel that looks like that. I was told that it has been gutted so it is extremely loud, much like straight pipes.

In order to reduce the volume, I have a set of modified Harley baffles that slide into each pipe and are secured with a set screw. That helps.

2) Just how loud is this thing - does anyone on the board run one on the street?

Within my neighborhood's range, I stay pretty low profil by keeping the rpm's down.

Once i'm out of rang, i step on the music pedal and that's how i like it.

Like Kevin G. setting off the alarms on in the parking garage at work is also alot of fun!

Well actually mine is a 2 in-3out. It has the OEM tailpipe on it plus the 2 sport ones. For long trips with my wife, I can cap the sport pipes to get it more quiet. It's the best of both worlds!

I also have a two-in two-out sports muffler on a 1969. Vintage early 911 sound in my opinion. Noticed a power increase when I removed a two-in one-out stock type. Occasionally I drive it to work and boy does is set off the alarms in an enclose 4 level parking garage at the university. At least one per floor. All that loud - not unpleasantly so. Not as loud an many ricers that all want to race me! When they see it is a 50+ old fart driving - they all say "cool car!"

I love my sport muffler. Especially in tunnels and overpasses. Take it up to 6.5K and then back off the throttle completely. The baawahhhhhhhhhhh sound is so kewl.

Jasper, How loud you ask. Well, the more horsepower modifications you've done to your engine the louder this dual in dual out sport muffler will be.

I've had this muffler on three differant engines.

2.0 T a little louder than a stock muffler.

2.4 S with Webers and a lot of other engine modifications, a lot louder than a stock muffler.

2.4 S case with 2.7 RS p/c, Webers and many other engine modifications. Very, very loud. But, with this engine the stock two in one out muffler was also very loud.

On your '78 SC, it won't be too loud. I'm sure you'll enjoy the sound. And if you don't like it you can always sell it of course. They're fairly cheap, about $400.00

If you want to hear the my dual in dual out muffler the Pelican Parts member Wydryd has posted a short audio one of my 911's with this muffler. Listen to it. So do a search for Wydryd then scroll down until you see the post, Audio of Two Oh's 911.

Good Luck.

Mark, There was a slight increase in the upper RPM range.
This was a stock 2.0 T engine.
Sounded a little raspy.
Really Nice sound..

Being mufflers are my current obsession, what's a Tesh muffler? Never heard of it. Do you have anymore info on it? I did a search for Tesh mufflers, but got mostly "John Tesh," who, incidentally, is not one of my obsessions.

I've listened to your audio 2-oh...and I gotta say I like the sound a lot, although I predict the wife will ride with me exactly one more time if I go that route.

Not that that's a bad thing, and I'm certain I won't hear her yelling at me to "...SLOW DOWN" like she always does.

On top of all this...you may have seen a post of mine where I described the S-cam and weber carb equipped 3.0 that I am considering. It's looking more and more as though this is going to happen.

Do you think it would be loud then? (rhetorical question).
