I wonder if it will bring what the bargain '90 C2 did recently?

Auction closed at 13.5K but reserve not met. Didn't someone here recently sell their 84/85 cab for $14.5 or so?
What is everyone's opinions on these 911SC cabs? Although they are the first year of the cab (potential collectible), I think that this fact is overshadowed by the fact that in 1984, they were replaced by a significant upgrade. I would figure $13.5 to be a fair value for this car, but I have seen people price them into the 20s... ??? -Wayne

IMHO I'd rather own this than a 915 Carrera 3.2........however a G50 Carrera 3.2 cab takes the cake as far as the impact-bumper cabriolets are concerned. I think the SC cab has the potential to become a collectors item but I would not trade up to a Carrera 3.2 cab if I already had one of these and if I was looking for a cab and an SC cab came my way that met the criteria I'd have a tough time passing it up.

I have to agree that the intersection of the Cabriolet style with the last of the SC line makes any SC-based Cab. a desireable car. If I had the money I would make this guy an offer today. 13.5K and it didn't sell? That seems strange to me.
And this is not a knock on the Carrera, it is only that no Carrera Cab. even with improvements will ever be the original, first-year Cab. There's a guy in Seattle trying to sell a commemerative (Ferry P.) car at 35K. He is now down in the lower 20Ks. That car is not nearly the collector that this SC Cab is. John

I don't think the fact that the SC cab was only made in one year, or that it was the first year for the cab, gives it any added "collectability value" whatsoever.
I don't think anyone really cares. The e-bay seller is a good example, he touts his SC cab as a "first year cab" yet has swapped the SC badge for a Carrera badge. So much for "SC cab" pride. Of course, if they made the SC cab in '83 and then discontinued the cab body style from '84 onwards, that would be a different story. But of course that is not what happened. An 84 Carrera cab will always be worth a little more than an '83 SC cab, condition of the cars being equal, IMO. (An '84 Carrera should also have some collectability value - it was the first year of the 3.2 engine, right?) Last edited by Jim T; 10-22-2002 at 01:12 PM.. |
