Fender Screws?

Does anyone know where to find fender screws such as the ones you find attaching the front bumper and bellows? I checked with our host and didn't find them. Ideas?

Rick

Wurth might make them. If so, our host should be able to get them.

I would expect them to be a standard size. Theoretically speaking, if you knew what size they were, you could just go down to Lowes' and buy a set. I don't see the spec listed in the Bentley's (if somebody else knows where it is, I'd be much obliged), though if I knew which ones it was you were looking for, perhaps I could go down, pull one out, and measure it.

It seems to me they should be a fairly standard item as well. I doubt that I am the only one who doesn't want to put old rusty screws into a new bumper or bellows. These are the screws that run along the bottom edge of the fender and hold the bumper up, both front and back and also appear to be the same ones that attach the bellows. They take an 8mm socket. Look like a short fat wood screw. I may just make do with the closest I can find at the ol' ardware store.

Mabye go to the local hardware store and buy one of each in metric, lube'em up, and see if any are made for that tread size/pitch. I ended up using common speed clips and screws for u.s. standard threaded fenders but they worked.

After hunting around a bit, I found the 8mm head screws you're talking about. They possess a roughly 15mm washer, are approx 15mm deep, and have slightly fewer than 9 threads, top to bottom. They are definitely screws, not bolts. Does that help?

Thanks for the ideas, I am sure I can turn something up locally, just need to keep looking.

I found metric fender bolts which matched mine almost exactly (black instead of cadmium) at a local industrial supply. I just took one of my originals in and matched it up. The bumper is held on by 4 nylock nuts which should be reusable or easily replaced if you have a metric source. The bellows have integral studs. You can replace the nuts and washers, but the studs are either there or not.

Actually, Rick, if you're out in your fenders, would you mind measuring a bolt for me when you get a chance? I discovered the other day that I don't have any of the rear-top bolts, the ones that mount the fender in place up next to the windshield, sort of behind the door-opening. The Bentley's says there ought to be 4, and I have a grand total of zero. They look like maybe 12mm in the picture in the book, but I can't find the actual spec for it. Thanks a bunch, in advance.

Those 4 bolts are different from the rest. They are actual bolts.

I spoke with the local expert here in NC. There are basically three parts. The hex head screw, flat washer and rubber type washer. If these are not availabe from out host, I can get the parts.
