What I Learned From Fellow Pelicans
When I bought my 911 SC last year I was a total novice to the air cooled world. Since I joined this forum I have learned many helpful things to improve performance, reliability, safety. I also got to learn what members do to customize their cars.
So I did following: Added Etarga LED instrument lights; Added fuse to that circuit, added JWest headlight relays; Added fuse to the AC Blower Motor wiring; Replaced shift coupler bushings; Replaced AC Compressor Belt; Installed SSI heat exchangers and Monty 2 in 1 out muffler. My general observations are that most owners love their Fuchs wheels especially the 8" or 9" width. Most owners want to get 17" wheels. Skinny Euro rear bumpers are preferred over US version (Kardeshian rear end) bumpers. Seems like most people prefer the cars without rear spoiler followed by Duck wing. Whale tail comes in last. There seems to be lot of carburetor lovers. There is also lot of humor on the forum. My favorite is the friendly rivalry between the Targa vs. Coupe owners. |
Yep, this is a great community.
I didn't join Pelican until AFTER I pulled the engine/trans out of the SC the first time(by myself, without anything more than the Haynes book.) :( My 911 hasn't needed much over the years but I visit here pretty much daily to see what's going on. I also try to share what I have learned about the 911 even though I don't have the experience that others do. Not only is the technical information invaluable, the guys and gals here are a good bunch of people. |
If you like the Targa v Coupe dialogue, visit the 930 forum and read the daily, hilarious Paul v Ronnie give and take.
The consensus seems to be Paul is the giver and Ronnie the receiver.:D Matt Also, do search for the classic "monkey roll" and "just nicked my sack" threads. |

Targa owners are terrible people.
Key point that can't be missed. |

Maybe the lack of fear comes from not really having anything to live for? |
How many times do we need to go over the data that all points to 1 thing?
Targas are just better in every measurable statistic. Targa owners are better looking, make more money and are more respected in their communities. Do we really need to go over this again? Where is that fella from Beverly Hills or Malibu who was sure his Targa 72T cruised easily at 165 mph with the top off? He was sure he was right and was willing to mix it up with anyone who didn't believe him. |

everything is better topless, including targas and the women who ride in their passenger seats sans tops.

I prefer my women with hard tops rather than leaky ones...

Back on topic...:D
There isn't a single project I started on the car that did not begin with an intensive search and reading threads, especially ones with pictures. Thanks to the great collective wisdom of this forum I saved money, time, and effort. ;) |

Also, how many times has Probst's book or Jim's CIS Primer been read and things just don't quite make sense and one of the CIS Gods drops some simple practical suggestion and all is well? The few times I have helped folks it's from stuff I picked up from others here..............even Ronnie. |
