Bosch 008 distributor question
I am building a 2.4 Mod S motor with carbs. I am using the standard 008 Bosch distributor that came on these motors. It utilizes a vacuum pod that would provide "retard" via an actuating arm and a sliding plate that mounts the points. In this application that is all in-op.
So the question: Can I remove the vacuum pod and fix the sliding plate to the lower plate (drill and tap a hole and screw them together). This would eliminate some parts and any movement between the two plates that might affect timing. Is there a single piece plate used on some other model distributor that would be a suitable alternative that already is all one piece?? Thanks all. |

I think if you disconnect the vac pipe then the diaphragm in the 'can' will hold its position and eliminate the need to change anything.

Chris, I realize that. Doing this for two reasons:
1) Elimination of some stuff that serves no purpose. 2) removing any chance of movement of the points holding plate (I realize it should never move with no vac hose attached). Maybe not worth the trouble, but drilling and taping is not a big deal. Having done more research, I realize that this much more complex than I thought I knew. Lot's of differences distributor to distributor. Time to send out for an expert .....$$$$$ Last edited by gereed75; 02-06-2015 at 12:34 PM.. |
