Vintage Tech Articles on CIS K-Basic and K-Jetronic Lambda Diagnostics and Repair

I recently came across a group of vintage archived articles about Bosch CIS K-Basic and K-Jetronic Lambda fuel injection. These articles -- written for automotive technicians -- provide both an overview and diagnostic procedures. For some of us, the information is not exactly anything new. Still, these articles provide a perspective of procedures from back in the day that are still very relevant to maintaining our cars' fuel injection systems. I've arranged the links in order from the basic system (sans oxygen sensor and lambda control unit) to the later, more advanced K-Jetronic system. Enjoy!

Thanks

Baby bottle/jar test on flow volume. Says to test three times at different air sensor heights.

Never thought of that.

Thanks for this ! Very easy to understand with explanations of what can be a very confusing system its not, just misunderstood. I really enjoy reading these old school mechanical manuals. They to me, tend to be very straight forward with tips/troubleshooting.

Excellent, thanks! Those are some of the best CIS articles I've seen.

I recently jumped back in the CIS fray (something I said I'd never do again!) and have been reading up on it to refresh (Probst, etc).

With a set of pressure gauges and knowledge of how the system works, it isn't bad. A lot of the parts can be rebuilt or fixed (WUR, etc.) and there's a ton of resources/info for CIS out there these days.

Kind of fun to work on an old school, mechanical system again.

I'm glad others see the value in these hands-on, practical technical articles. There was another article -- the url is http://mastertechmag.com/pdf/1988/15may/198815IS_KLambda.pdf -- but it returns a 404. Maybe the collective can find this one as well so we've got it as a resource.

Bob, take a look at illustration No. 4 in this article (https://www.mastertechmag.com/pdf/1989/09sep/198909IS_LetUsSpray.pdf), which shows the use of a fixture tool -- Zelenda 1348 1/A -- to hold the airflow sensor plate in various positions for injector spray/flow testing. Neat stuff.

Tip 13 - alcohol laden fuel will cause hot start issues.

Sucks to be in an ethanol state.
