I am in the process of removing my 2.7 to chase some oil leaks. In the 101 projects book it specifies to remove the clutch arm. I am confused because there are two levers, as short one and a long one.
The short one came of easy after removing the c clip. ![]() The second arm that is long and has the helper spring on it, doesn't seem to want to budge. It looks like it has a pin in it (I am pointing at it with my finger) , but Wanes book says it should slide off. ![]() Is this arm required for removal of the engine? If so, is it pined to the shaft or does it just need some persuasion? ![]() ![]()

It is not required to be removed. It rotates on the shaft and provides leverage for the clutch cable to move the smaller arm.

This long arm rotates freely (supposedly) and I say that because I have seen them frozen on the vertical shaft. You can rotate the arm off the spring, lube, clean, heat and lube some more til it rotates freely on the vertical shaft
Long arm is idler and can stay on to split engine and trans. It's a real pain to pull the pin and if you get it off, keep it off. Bruce |

Got it! - Long arm stays with the trans.
Thanks guys, this is my first 911 engine drop. So far so good. One other question, when I drop the motor: I am assuming that I need to support the engine at the case seam and not let the SSI heat exchanges support any weight of the engine. Am I correct?

I always use the exhaust manifold as a stand. No problems on several engines, just spread the load:

Yes, there is a pin that they discontinued during/after '78 (the early SC's have them). It drives out easy enough with PB Blaster and the proper pin tool. You'd remove it if you wanted to replace the Omega spring - that might not be a bad idea now, but If it ain't broke...
