KerryM, The Porsche engineers went to the three prong flasher in the 85 time frame. I think they realized the design was over engineered and the electronics in the 4 pin flasher relay fail causing numerous problems such as the tach directional lights turning on and not flashing. Glad to hear it worked for you.

911 Turn signal indicator issue

targa80's suggested mod worked great for my 84 running leds. The L/R arrows blinked simultaneously and all of my lights everywhere flickered. I had thought it was a failing voltage regulator etc. I replaced the belt, cleaned the grounds etc but lights still flickered. I added an led flasher with 3 prongs and added a 4th to ground in an attempt to get rid of the L/R gauge indicators blinking at the same time on my gauge. I'm very happy to report that this mod fixed the dual indicator gauge blinking AND my flickering lights everywhere problem!

Do it if you haven't!

Took only 5 minutes from start to finish!

Thanks targa80

Koizumi,

Glad to hear the mod fixed another issue with the flasher circuit. It seems that there are multiple symptoms that can be attributed to this one circuit.

Great mod Targa80.... I found this on a search today. Looks like the PO had installed a 3 pin relay, I just added a ground, and tach flasher indicators started working ... 5 mins and completely reverasable. Nice mod. Thanks!

Just found this, great thread. The one thing that changes with the three prong for me was that the blinkers are faster. It sure it is fast enough to think something else is wrong but def faster than the orig 4 prong

irl,

It sounds like you have another issue with the flashers running faster. The mod I did had no effect on the speed of the turn signal/hazard lights flashing. Have you checked all of the flasher bulbs are the correct type and working properly? I would suspect that a bad bulb may cause the fast flasher speed of the relay.

I'm looking to replace the flasher relay in my '76 911S, should I go with the 4 prong since it sounds like that was what my car came with? If I go with the 3 prong, do I HAVE to make the ground connection?

If you have installed the 4 prong hella 3425 -02 relay then the ground mod would be required to use a three prong EP36 type relay as used in 1985 models onward. As long as you do not cut into the harness the mod can be reversed.

@targa80 Thanks for the reply. I plan to go with the 3 prong so I will fabricate the ground blade connector to use with it.

Which LEDs did you use in the indicator bulb holders? Source please?
