1988 Carrera throttle cable??

I was checking my throttle cable return action today
and snapped one of the two nylon tabs which hold
the accelerator cable in the metal bracket on the engine.
The cable is still mounted, but if I pull on it I can pull
it out of the mounting. What a drag.

Anyway, I've checked Pelican and others and no one lists
replacement cables (firewall to throttle body), or even
the little nylon bracket itself.

Does anyone here have a lead on a source? I'll call
Pelican Monday, but they do not seem to list these parts
on their site...

Been there, done that. I just put two small tie-wraps around it and it hasn't bothered me since. (I don't use cruise control much tho...)

I did the two tie wrap fix also in a cross pattern using black tie wraps. The black tie wraps blend in with the other black accents in the engine bay, so it doesn't look too bad at all.

Yep, that be the beast! Cruise control, eh?
Well, I never use that other than to experiment
to see if I can remember the arcane instructions.

I ended up putting a little epoxy on the fitting, and
it seems to be tight for now. I'm assuming it
will not see enough heat to soften up, so
think I am good for now.

Thanks for the pictures, they really helped ID
the issue.

Reviving this old thread...

Driving my 88 over the weekend and had the throttle hang wide open on me. Lucky I was not in traffic. Pulled over and this is what I found..

As you can see my car already had the Zip tie mod at the bracket but did not know seperation further back was a problem. Thought others should know so they can inspect theirs.

My fix to get me home..

If I want to replace this cable is it the cruise control cable at 225.00 from our host?

zip ties for me, too!!!

Worked flawlessly for several years,..THEN the damned piece at the end (barrel-shaped) snapped off one day....I plan to look into this via 2 possible solutions:

1.) find a source to add a fab'd extension piece (barrel and all)

2.) head to a sports store to look for some DEEP-SEA wire (a'la fishing...someone had suggested this to me a while back). I haven't had a chance to inspect the OTHER end of this cable but the suggestion is worth checking in to, for sure...I'll STILL nead to locate that thread that provided parts sources for these (barrel-type) crimped ends.

AGAIN,..tie wraps work great to keep that in position...I didn't know this part was even available....cool.

A cruise control cable assembly is not cheap,..and that's if I can find a NEW one, should that be my last recourse...........

Best!

Not sure I'm ready to be out the 225.00 just yet for a new one either. I'm also looking into a epoxy solution and or tie wire for my particular problem that does not looked to "rigged"

regards,

Mike

Precisely! Not cheap!

What's so convenient about the plastic piece, is that it's really small stuff,..one can zip it and go (or zip and-comfortably- know that all is well while investigating alternate "fixes").

When I think about it, this is probably THE MOST COMMON thing "done" on a 911 with cruise!!!!!!!!

Let's see what turns up for (cheap) resolutions,...........

BEST!

put a real small hose clamp on the cable sheath, right next to where it goes into the plastic block, then zip tie around the screw on the clamp and the metal bracket.

Same thing happened to me last night, I was able to put the cable back and baby it home without too much throttle.

Have there been any new options for this repair since 2012?

Hope not! I love zip ties!
