Talking Just got back from my Gatlinburg trip.....(pics)

Thanks to those that recommended the "Tail of the Dragon" on the TN/NC border. What a road. 350 turns in 11 miles. Many of the turns are switchbacks with dramatic elevation changes. Melissa, my wife tried to take some photos out the windshield on some of the milder stuff. It was easy to find myself drifting off into fantasy-land imagining that I was Vic Elford in the Monte Carlo Rally. The occasional Winnebego coming the other direction would unfortunatly bring me back to the real world.......I still dont see how or why you would try to take a RV down that road. First time we had the car on a long trip and it was very enjoyable. Here are some pics.......

Neat pictures, i'd love to see more, unfortunately, almost all of them came up as little boxes with "X's" in the middle... don't know why.

Pretty car too!

a sport exhaust equipped 70S.... through mile after mile of twisty rising and falling roads with incredible scenery.... I just don't know how it could get any better

I'm sure I'd have to leave the wife at home for that one, because I'd be hustling down the road!

Thanks for sharing

Skinnerd, Yeah the wife was ok with the drive for a while but as I became more confident she became markedly more vocal about the unneccesary agressive driving style Its amazing though, at no point did I ever feel that I was really pushing the car hard. I imagine that it would take a lot more aggressive/skilled/brave driver than me to get the thing loose on those low-speed corners. Nothing beats the feeling of standing on the gas while exiting a corner and feeling that rear end bite and just shoot you up towards the next corner. WOOOHOOOO

that corner is where a buddy of mine wrecked on his bike. he was going the other way and low sided his bike. we pushed the bike where you are taking the picture at. that funny to see that corner again...(we had to wait there an hour while they went to get the truck) you can see why i would know that corner....

My wife was the first ever recorded female in history to wreck her own bike on The Dragon. I'm so proud!

Glad the trip went well. Having spent quite a bit of time on US 129, all other twisty roads just seem to lack something!

Great lookin' car! I'm jealous of your trip. I now live in Arizona but grew up about 1 1/2 hours east of Gatlinburg in the Tri-City area of Tenn. (Bristol/Kingsport/Johnson City) Seeing your photos takes me back to my motorcycle days and running 421 up Holston Mountain and down into Shady Valley. I would love to take my 911 on that road now.

Hey Lee, did we talk about that area when we met? I'll look for you on the 2nd at Phoenix Flight.

I Imagine that it would be a lot easier to get yourself in trouble on that road with a bike than it would with a car. Someone needs to organize a P-Car event near that stretch of road! I know I would be there for sure!

We have talked about taking a ride to Deal's Gap with the North Carolina group. There used to be a large Miata gathering there in late Summer, not sure if that still happens. I went the first year but the crowd got too big to enjoy the road without getting up at 5:30 in the morning. The road is best enjoyed in small groups. What they need to do is close it off at both ends, let us sign a waiver, pay $10 and have at it!

Well I'm not sure where Gatlinburg is but it looks like you had a nice time with great windy roads. It reminds me of when my husband and I went up north last fall to see the colors and took Hwy 1 from the north shore to Ely. It is also known for lots of hills and windy roads. Here is just one of our many "pictures out of the sunroof" photos.
