3.6 motor in and running.....AND HOME
FWIW.....the Dr Steve Timmins 3.6 crate motor is in, ran it for 70 miles on
the highway.....55F on a dark night out....temp ran in the mid range between the middle and the 3/4 hot spot..... Will get the pyrometer out tomorrow and get an accurate read. I am running a Carrera oil cooler in the fender well without a fan. Looks as if the extra MOCAL is going to be a necessary addition. First impression? Well, the redline comes AWFUL fast in first gear......acceleration is nasty. Have not really punched through all the gears as yet.....but the roll on from 55 to 125 in fifth was quite fun. The dual supertrapps are not too bad....will need to get the dbA meter out as well to see if I can pass the San Diego and Laguna noise maximum limits..... More later..... I still have some of the parts from the 3.0 available......http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/PA240004.JPG
Dual out dual in Dansk that I got from Pelican, 300 bucks or trade for something, includes muffler hangers. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/PA240005.JPG Custom made stainless steel Heat exchangers, thin flange really woke up my 3.0 from the cruddy federalized monstrosity that was on it....$500.00 I also have a Bursch single outlet, dual in muffler, $200 and a working smog pump $150...... Sorry to post for sale items here..... |
Very nice! Can't wait to hear more.
|
Mike,
Good to see its up and running. Any difference in the feeling with the extra weight in the back? Good luck with the oil temps but at least you are fighting it in the fall and winter instead of summer! Joe |
Joe....seems a little "darty" on the freeway. Could be attributed to the extra engine weight or the lack of seat time from when I pulled the motor and install......I plan on putting it on the scales and checking the corners.....probably needs a little adjustment.
Sure beats driving the F350 to work. Looked under the car and it's dry as a bone....no oil leaks. Looks as if I will need to power wash the trans the engine is a LOT cleaner. The motor is AS ADVERTISED from Dr. Steve...... so anyone waiting in the wings....go for it.....:D |
Mike
Congratulations on the new found hp. I'm curious about the custom SSIs. Not in a buying way mind you, just curious. Did you make them yourself? Looks like homemade shrouds on regular SSI pipes? What happened to the original shrouds. Good handywork. BTW, you don't look that old :p |
I've got to hear those supertrapps--any sound/video clips?
|
Mike,
Anything is darty after driving a pickup truck! Did you lose any ground clearance with the exhaust? Looks a bit low where the two exhaust pipes come out... Joe |
MikeZ, congrats, I've got mine on order with Steve.
Did you do anything to get more air up in the wheel well? I was hoping to get by with a Carrera cooler w/fan and some ducting. If I have to go the nose route I'd rather not spend any time installing a fender cooler. |
I formerly had a brass row cooler....stock with euro delivery 911 SCs. I had added a cooler opening that is offered by PParts. It helped a little, probably 10-20 F on the track at Willow Springs.
The Carrera cooler was added with the 3.6 transplant and seems to work OK for commuting in non rush hour traffic. But it still is higher than I want it......I picked up a splitter, a MOCAL with the 30mm adapters and plan on a second sequential cooler in the front. I also may add a SPAL fan with a toggle in the cockpit for manual off/on. Joe....ground clerance....yup a little tight. I am looking to see if a muff shop can bend them up a bit. But I have more problems with the front than the rear as it is below euro height all around. Chuck.....the heat exchangers were bought as-is. The seller stated that he had them made and was going to do some mass production but decided against it. They are a one off model. The magnet does not stick to any of the surfaces, so they are all stainless.... |
