Authority Mass flow Sensor

I'm thinking about getting ones for my 86 911..and
Can any one tell me, if they like it or not!
It is worth getting one or Do I needs other things to go with to get more better performance ? Thank

I don't have one, but have paid attention when others have discussed them. Some have been happy, others have felt the benefit didn't match the price. To get the most benefit you also need to open up the exhaust.

There was an article in 911 & Porsche World about 1-1.5 yr ago about a company in France on the German border that takes Euro cars with no cat adds a high flow cat, higher flow injectors, a Porsche "hot-wire" MAF (I think from 993's), and remaps the DME. Doing all of those mods to a car with 231hp increases things to 257hp.

Hey Masraum
Thank..Speaking of SSI..how much house power can you get compare the racing header pipe?
Thank

If you're not stuck on the Autothority, I've heard good things about the Huntley system.
http://www.huntleyracing.com/massairflow.htm

I know someone that has the Huntley system on his 87. He also has SSI's. As far as I know, he is happy with the system. I don't know what HP gains he's seen.

Guess it depends on what else you have done.
MAF on a stock 3.2 will get you very little benefit. On a highly developed engine, it may be be a better bet, but that is only when the engine is demanding more air than the stock intake can provide.

If you've done everything else, MAF might be next on your list. Read Anderson's book before you buy.

I have heard about the same place as well - it is named "Sportwagenservice". There was an article in the August 2000 911 & Porsche World Magazine. They took a Carrera 3.2 liter engine and did a "SWS Katronic Conversion" which consited of:
* Hot-wire sensor from a 993 (with original Porsche parts)
* their custom Catalytic convertor
* Larger injectors are fitted to the engine (they don't say what type)
* The Bosche ECU is remapped for the new parameters
The result is 258 HP

The author for the article mentions that the already know that the "gains are substantial" for the hot wire sensor, but with the all of the other things combined (almost a 12% increase in power), they were pretty impressed.

I wanted to find out more about this, so I asked my German friend to call, and off hand I don't recall the prices, but he did say that the Catalytic Convertor is a "racing model" which had fewer cells, and might not last as long as a standard Cat.

Sport Wagon Service has a site and its below. They have some very interesting projects and parts from time to time.

http://www.911-parts.de/

If you can understand German a bit its easy to go through the site, but if not click on the English flag on the lower left side and most of its in English.

Their comments on body parts and motor building and such are not translated onto the English page but can be accessed on the German site. Body parts are "gfk-teile," "motorumbau" is the section telling about their latest offerings on motors and so on...

Anyone have experience with the MAF offered by Modern Performance as advertised in Grassroots Motorsports?

widebody911 10-24-2002 07:39 PM

Stu @ Schatz & Krum here in Sacramento used a BMW MAF on a 3.2L and picked up some sizable gains, once he ditched the stock airbox. Once he gets all the details worked out, I want him to try it on my 3.6L

Even with the power that low I don't think I'd be shifting that early. I can easily start mine in second without tons of slippage or undo engine lugging, but I don't. Besides, half of the pleasure is experiencing the engine through it's range.

That's great, but the thing is, can you start off in third without any slippage and your engine dying out?

I've been running the HF MAF for the past few years and overall have been happy with it. It is actually less in cost then the Authothority. It does require more tuning to tweak the hp curve, but is effective, especially at high rpm. I notice a distinct surge of power very high in the powerband compared to a diminishing in power previously. Bad points, very limited technical support and muddy instructions. I would only recommend it with numerous intake and exhaust modifications, which I already have done. The car does pull well. On track use on straights, the car is at least even with C2's and close to 993's.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/PB260021.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/PC010007.JPG

Computer problem '93 C2 RSA

1993 RSA

I have battled a battery drain for 8 years by plugging the car into a trickle charger every day. Nobody could trace why.

Recently, the speedo would stop working and the ABS lights would scream a warning. I figured it was a bad speed pickup triggering ABS to send the warning that an input (speed) was missing and, therefore ABS was not working.

Now the car just randomly cuts ignition and usually restarts ok immediately after pulling over.

My mechanic says the computer is returning a code that it is losing memory and wants to replace the computer.

I have an Autothority hot wire mass air flow sensor and chip in the car as well. I like the performance that that package delivers.

1. Will changing the computer affect the chip? Is the chip in the computer? Do I need to re map anything or is it just a plug it in type of deal?

2. Do any of my symptoms seem to fit with the bad computer diagnosis?

ANY help would be much appreciated as I have decisions to make.
