Acura RSX Type S Seats In SC Targa - Nope

I bought a set of Acura RSX Type S seats quite a while ago and finally got around to seeing how they fit.

BLUF - they sit a little too high and there is no easy way to lower the seat bracket / mount points.

Meanwhile - the existing seat brackets are 16" on center, so they were a direct bolt in (once I ground off the mount tabs).

Here's a few shots for anyone who's ever wondered:

Next to my Sparco (which sits really low)

Driver's side doesn't leave much room between the steering wheel and the seat:

Too bad - they are a great set of seats.

Based on this experience I've determined that if you are looking for a different set of used seats - look for ones that have mount points that are nearly flush with the underside of the seat pan.

I put Boxter seats in mine - dropped in with minimum mods and seem readily available.

It looks like the seat pan is bolted to the mounts. Doesn't look hard to make new mounts...

JR - I gave it some consideration, the picture just doesn't capture the challenge...

What appears to be nuts threaded on the bolts that extending out of the seat pan are actually fixed fasteners. As such, I believe the bolt heads are under the seat cushion, which would require complete disassembly of the seat cushion to access the heads to tighten if you were to try to re-use. The forward mount bracket (with bolts through it) seems to be a reinforcement for the forward, raised edge of the seat bolster (area below your thighs).

Additionally, if you were to follow that bracket toward the rear of the seat - you find its actually part of the seat pan assembly (i.e. the whole mounting surface would need to be cut off).

Basically you would need to cut the existing slider mounts off, which is actually part of the seat pan (the part that the current rails mount to) and fabricate and weld new brackets to mount your sliders on.

Again - nice seats, but not worth the effort.

Back to Craigslist they will go...

Fanaudical -

I've read where the Boxster seats work, but also sit a bit higher than the stock / or most Recaro seats (that have very low profile mounting points for the seat rails).

I would love those, but I'm considering tracking my car (helmet) and don't think I can afford to lose much headspace.

Do your seats sit higher than stock, and if so - do they provide sufficient headroom for a helmet (kind of matters how tall you are of course...)?
---------------------

Thanks,
Gordo
