rear trailing arm - no mount for drop link?
I've got a '74 911, steel rear trailing arms. looking at them, there does not appear to be a place to mount the drop links for the rear sway bar, not a threaded hole or the ball mount. were there trailing arms without mounts for sway bar links?
|
I think that was the case for the '74s. Maybe yours is the "non-S" version? No rear bar.
The aftermarket sway bars you would purchase use a special fitting which replaces one of the adjusters, so this isn't going to be an issue. Only a die hard concuriste would contemplate duplicating the stock rear sway bar mounting and bar on a car without one. |
my chassis is a 911S, but who knows, trailing arms could have been swapped out. it had a rear sway bar at some point, as the sway bat mounts on the body are there (but wrecked, I bought replacement weld on WEVO sway bar mounts). Bought a stock sway bar, went to put it on, and was surprised to find the trailing arms had nowhere to attach the drop links.
Now I need to decide if I should get a new sway bar, and attack it to the spring plate, or replace the trailing arms with aluminum ones and use the stock mounting points (would buy an aluminum pair of trailing arms with the threaded holes) |
A 74 should have had aluminum trailing arms so yours have been replaced .

I tought all 74 had rear sway bare .

PO must have swapped them out for older steel trailing arms. Car also has a 2.2T and a 4-speed 901, so wouldn't be surprised if they came out of whatever donor car the motor did.
Worth swapping in aluminum trailing arms, or better to leave the steel trailing arms and mount a sway bar to the spring plates or something? |
You can weld ball mount on yours.

I would put aluminum arms back in. Lighter, provision for a rear bar. The early arms were a little different in the angle of the shock attachment, too.
