Perhaps it's been too long ago, but BofA at one time would have had video surveillance of whomever set up the account. Whether fraudulent ID or not, having a photo would be a big help.

The fact that this scum bag criminal is still active makes him a prime target for a sting. Is there a way to make a living catching these criminals and throwing them in prison...?

Going to be hard to catch him with a sting. I don't think this person will agree to meet in person. I think someone here already contacted them and asked if they could come see the car.

I'd love to see this scum caught because it makes things very hard for people like me who make a living selling on the internet. Most of my business is done on the internet and I sell to people outside my state on a very regular basis. The only plus I have going is I have references all over the country that I've sold to who will vouch for me and I provide a list of people upon request along with other ways to verify.

Something I do to avoid being scammed when I buy equipment in other states is to have the equipment inspected by a registered dealer (Caterpillar, Case, Bobcat etc.) and I pay to have them hold it once the inspection meets my satisfaction. I've lost some deals on equipment doing things that way because the seller doesn't want to haul it to a dealer but never lost money because the deal wasn't real.

Laurence,
I feel for ya and it sucks this happened to you. I hope you are able to recoup something from this.

I have to ask what are the police or FBI telling you? I mean the guy is still currently posting ads.

I was robbed approx $1000.00 for a set of Brodix heads about 5 years ago. I called the local precinct in the persons area and they had one other complaint regarding the same thing. Within 1 week Tommy John of Clearwater Forida was locked up. I received checks from him for about a year till restitution was paid.

You are talking about a $30k theft. I am going to expect if you have contacted the authorities he will be apprehended. I am also shocked BOA is not assisting as you have an open complaint with the FBI regarding fraud and theft. When you wired the money they asked you what it was for. They opened the fraudulent account.

Sorry and hope it works out but the whole thing sounds odd. I couldn't imagine that posting on here is helping the police? I understand helping the Porsche community but you might be pushing them out of police's reach.

Good luck and hope it works out.

Well, I just received an email from "Jeniffer" from Carsforsale.com about the XKR I was looking at, she said the reason she is selling the car so cheap is here husband died, oh and she moved to Portugal and that is where the car is. But the car is cheap I have move on it. It will take 19 days for me to get the car and it will come COD to me. She wants to talk to me about it.

I sent "her" the following

Ephesians 4
give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

I'm a solid pass on the car, good luck with your "sale"

Have a blessed day Jeniffer

I've placed an anti-add in Toledo. It didn't seem to cost anything. Is that right? does placing an add on craigslist cost nothing?

wish you the very best in recovering and prosecuting the scammer(s). I do believe it is a ring and not just one individual. Pressure the bank and the authorities . I work as IT for a 37 attorney law office in San Diego and their advice, put pressure and don't give up.

Below is in an example on how to deal with a scam..

Well if Craigslist is free then let me encourage anti-adds every time we see THIS particular car (let's assume all other adds are legit until we know otherwise). If you would rather not get personally involved please PM and I'll happily do it.

I suspect the mistake in your thinking here is that is a singular "he". I now believe this to be a well organized ring of scamsters operating from god only knows where.

Not a penny. I use CL to advertise my machines. I saw the ad btw.

I have a search app on my phone that searches CL within a radius of my home for the keyword Bobcat. I see more scams listed than you could ever imagine. I even found one listed once, thought it was a nice looking machine and priced right. I then noticed that it was one of my machines.

With elaborate and persistent scams like this, it is important that everyone that has dealt with this douche report this criminal activity, regardless if you lost money or not. If a significant amount of people report a crime associated with the same person/business, law enforcement will take notice and possibly do something about it. Same thing goes for filing a complaint and notification with BofA or any other institution that is directly or indirectly complicit with the scam. One or two incidents don't get noticed but if dozens are reported on the same person it will get on the radar of law enforcement and proper authorities at the bank to clamp down on this scam.
