Any Advice for Sound Pad Installation?
I need to install a new engine sound pad. I will NOT be removing my engine. Is there anything I need to know prior to installing the new one? Any tricks I need to be aware of? Do the replacements fit easily without any modification/cutting?
Any advice would be apprecaited prior to me making a big mess. |

Removing the old pad remnants is the hard part. A little 3M weatherstrip goop will hold the new one, along with the clips along the upper edge.
Not too bad of a job, even with engine in place. Remove air cleaner.Good luck, Dave

I just did this. I bought an AppBiz pad (I believe our host sells them). It is a polyurethane foam (I think) with an integral skin. This means the surface can't separate from the foam like the originals. The fit is excellent; I didn't even use any adhesive to hold it in place. It's just held in by friction around the perimeter and the clips up top, and it's stiff enough to hold its shape against the firewall. Really impressed.
Cover your engine with a drop cloth before removing the old pad. Vacuum frequently to pick the little bits up. Try to avoid bending the top clips since they will eventually work harden and snap off. All in all this is an easy job. I was especially pleased with not having to use any adhesive for the new pad.
