Identify this piece of 915 debris
I found this sticking to the drain plug of my 915 trans today. It looks like remnants of a spring, possibly the inner part of a seal? Anyone care to venture a guess as to the seriousness of it? The trans works fine.

I would guess it's the main shaft seal only because that's the biggest one and it's closest to the drain plug. (Number 11)
The seal may still be doing its job so you may not getting any leakage for literally years but if it does start to leak you'll certainly know about it. ![]()

There are very few springy parts in a 915. The spring energizer for the various shaft seals is about it.
I think you are right. #11 is high up and less likely to let fluid pour out. All the other external seals are near or below the oil level. Front shift seal below oil level. Output shaft seals are very wet and mid height. So what else is left?? |
