Looky what I found (bad, bad news)

OK, so my driver's side window isn't going up too well these days. I rip it open, once again marvelling at the half-assed door-lock actuator installation done by the "alarm guys" in Tempe, AZ (name withheld to protect Wayne--you can contact me via email for their name).

I look inside the door to see how I'm gonna get the stupid regulator apart to disassemble and grease it, and what do I find wrapped up in the regulator.

What a bunch of chuckleheads. This has got to be the 4th time I've had a problem with their installation in less than 3 years. I'm seriously considering ripping out all of their work--who knows how many electrical problems I'll avoid without their garbage.

I haven't tested it too much yet but the window seems to go up lots better now.

I would have to say finding that mess is good news as far as your window not working is concerned. At least it wasn’t a bad regulator. This was much easier and cheaper to fix.

I had a not so professional place install my alarm right after I bought my car. Luckily it was a simple one and I watched them like a hawk the entire time. “Ah, what do think you’re going to do w/ that drill?”

It taught me really fast that I would never again let someone I didn’t know or have recommended work on the P-car.

I agree--but these turkeys were recommended to me by my wrench. Guess I'll have to tell him about this nonsense so he doesn't point anybody else in that shop's direction.

Blue,

Take the remains of the harness to your wrench and ask him if he really believes that the alarm shop should be recommended to anyone in the future. Ask him to pls call the owners of the shop and tell them that you will be visiting them shortly.

Then take the same bit of twisted mess to the alarm shop and ask them just what they are going to do to make you happy and not file a complaint against them. You paid good money for their crappy work and if you do nothing against them then they will continue to do this to others...

This way your wrench may stop referring them and you may get it either done correctly or your funds back.

Joe

I got so fed up with an Ungo box the PO had installed that I ripped every bit of it and a cheesy stereo install out. End of flakey electrical problems I had been trying to debug for months. Its amazing what you will find.

Cool

IMO, you get what you pay for, usually..and the competition in prices at alarm/stereo shops is immense..does a customer go to a shop and say "I don't care what it costs..do a perfect job"..I don't think so..and electrical stuff is so clean to perform..clean fingernails, no smashed nuckles.. electrical is a great education/interesting..and easy to do an overkill for little added bucks, because the biggest cost is your time and patience..and you have Pelican BB to help figure out anything..and I sometimes goof on myself to others when saying " I can screw it up by myself. I don't need to pay someone to screw it up for me"...peace brother.............Ron

I hardly trust anyone with my car. The mistakes I make are WAY more gentle to my car than someone else's deliberate actions. Electrical modifications are rarely done properly.

Might want to consider the possibility that the damage may have been caused by a slim-jim in an attempt to gain illegal access to the vehicle. This is known to happen. Most recently, the editors at R&T had a test vehicle damaged while parked in Sonoma at Sears Point. Damage to the window register so that the window wouldn' close completely. Just my two cents.

Clinton

Had same problem when I had an alarm system put in my car at a very reputable installer. I was told that everybody has a bad day. Well, they can have bad days on ricers, not my Porsche. I took out the whole system, reinstalled it and know it's done right. Lesson I learned here is if I'm too lazy to do it myself than it won't get done next time.
