Question 81SC turbo conversion

I have a 82sc and want to add HP. I have installed K&N filter and drilled the air box. What is the cleanest and most effective $/HP bolt on upgrades availible? I'm not wanting to tear the engine apart at this time. Is there a Bolt on turbo availible? What about Super Charger? New exaust? I use the car as my daily driver and weekend runs w/porsche club. Any feedback would be very helpfull.

matt

Start with SSI heat exchangers and a sport muffler.

After that, it's big $$$.

Wait--is this an ROW car?

Supercharging of Knoxville has a 300HP kit for the SC but I know nothing about it. They advertise in Excellence.

Hi Matt,

Wecome aboard!!

In answer to you question(s), the cheapest option to start with would be to backdate your exhaust with some early (pre 74) heat exchangers and muffler. This should be good for up to 20HP. Anything else and your going to start spending serious money.

Try a few searches, there's loads of info. on here.

Cheers,

Tim.

Super chargers of Knoxville has a Paxton and Whipple Charger kit for the SC. From $5-7K. They say no internal mods are required.

Hey, Matt

Where in Australia are you located? A nice exhaust is a good start: SSIs and a sport muffler would release a few more hp, other than that, CIS engines are not easy to get normally aspirated hp out of unless you start pulling the motor apart and getting 964 cams etc...

Look into a blower... Good Luck!

Careful with the supercharger. Don't run too much boost without lowering compression. Big problems. I think others on the board have learned that lesson, perhaps search on "supercharger."

I'd try SSI, muffler and different cams first.

Matt, if you are after performance in general, you may want to think of weight reduction or weight reduction
Engine mods on a 911 aren't easy after a 'point', as others have already pointed out. Heat exchangers and a muffler, coupled with a diet, should be a great improvement.

Just a thought.

Anthony.

if i was considering spending 4-7000 dollars i think i would find a good used complete 930 motor. i know where there are a few right now for that price. keep your other motor and when you are done with hotrodding sell the turbo motor for the same amount you purchased it for. supercharger kits do no hold there value like original porcshe turbo motors so i think you would be better off going that way if you wanted a turbo. if you dont want a turbo and have $10000.00 laying around go for a 3.6 conversion.
