Back light switch Sportomatic

Have problems with intermittent function of Back (reversing) light.

Sportomatic switch has 4 contacts but manual only 2.

What are the extra contacts on the sporto switch?

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,

according to electric diagrams there are 2 terminal 50's and 2 terminal 15's

50 terminals are from Ignition and to Starter motor - default position is on
15 terminals are from fuse S11 to Reverse Lights - default position is off

when you shift into reverse lights on terminal 15 are on and circuit on terminal 50 is off

well that's how i interpret the diagram

cheers
Shane

Thanks Shane.

Have you a circuit diagram for the 911L (1968) Sportomatic?

If so, any chance you can post it

i never seem to have found one.

Best wishes

Graham

Hi again,

Have found circuit elsewhere on Forum now.

In fact I had it in my "Driving with Sportomatic" booklet and Porsche Workshop Manual if I'd looked more closely.

I also find the starter will occasionally not always turn over until the shift lever is moved between various gear positions. I suspect this may be one of the two switches.

I know where the Backup light switch is.

Where is the Bypass switch?

Thanks in anticipation

Graham

It has been many years since I've driven my Sporto, but I seem to recall it having a neutral lockout switch (meaning it won't start unless it is in neutral). Also the microswitch on the shifter can be a bit touchy.

Hi Graham

I doubt it but try this, Google "porsche 911 workshop manual pdf"

link to the Early911nzdownloads site, it seems to have heaps of stuff for the early models

cheers
