87 Carrera Trailing Arm - Am I Missing Parts?
I'm knee-deep in the parts-cleaning stage of my rear-suspension-refresh project. While looking through PET for part numbers I noticed that the diagram is different than what I've got:
![]() First difference: The trailing arm bushing I removed (#3 on the diagram) was a rubber bushing sandwiched between two metal shells. There was no separate washer on the outside as shown. The replacements I got from our host are just like the old ones; Second difference: I've got a nut and bolt (items 4 and 6) but there was no washer (item 5.) Does this mean that my TA bushing was replaced with fewer parts at some point by a PO or his wrench? Each of these things could have an effect on how the TA bushing behaves. I'd be curious to know what others have found when doing this job. Thanks in advance, GK

The washer you see in part #3 is really just part of the bushing.
I don't think mine had a washer (#5) under the locknut, either. If there's room and it lets you sleep better at night, feel free to add one.

Hi Smoove1010,
I agree with gtc - the bushings do not have separate washers. Also there is no washer #5. There are other errors in the parts diagrams. One I seem to remember shows a large washer on each side of the shock absorber (damper) eye where it bolts onto the banana arm. In reality there is ony one which goes between the head of the bolt and the eye. |
