Solved my 78SC Wiring Issues (for now)
I have been tracking down wiring gremlins for months on this new to me project car, and I have posted questions several times. I have focused on bulb, fuse, grounding, and poor connector issues.
When all that failed to solve the rest of my electrical issues, I finally pulled the headlight switch in the dash and could not believe what I found; at least five of the wires were attached to the wrong terminals, including on short piece jumped between two terminals. Not surprisingly given this, I also found evidence of a prior significant wire meltdown. I am amazed that the care actually started and had headlights. Thanks to my Bentley manual and a color wiring diagram furnished by another Pelican, I have now replaced a few melted/no insulation/black tape blobs/charred connectors and reconnected the good wires to where they belong. And everything works just as it should! Thank you to all all of you who have helped me. My only advice is to: - disconnect the negative battery terminal before diving in too deeply - assume that a PO had no clue which wire went where - study the wiring diagrams and methodically check/trace every wire from the lighting, hazard, ignition, and turn signal switches - install the JWest headlight relays and the extra light switch fuse at 58A |
yes, i am amazed at what some people can do to a car like this.
i am so thankful the wiring on my 930 is unmolested. |
I just found a relay with one wire plugged in zip tied to the front of the chassis in the frunk. Now I get to figure out what the heck is going on there ...
