Horn Pad crest update

Gang, I have sourced a spare horn pad for my 84 Carrera so I can mount a small Porsche crest. I like the look, but want to keep my original horn pad in its current excellent condition - in case I want to go back or another owner does. For those that have done this upgrade, what epoxy/glue have you found to work best and not waiver in the face of high heat, etc.. Thanks for the advice.

I would go with a standard brush on contact cement, like 3M, or an equivalent.
It' strong enough to secure stretched headliners under severe interior heat conditions.
This is assuming that your surfaces are clean and flat.

I'm not sure epoxy would bond well with the vinyl plastic of the horn pad.

Thanks Joe. I do have a bottle of brush on cement that I used as part of my Targa top resto. That was rather tenacious, as I recall. Thanks for the tip. Steve

I'm ready to apply the new crest from our sponsor. Really nice emblem. It is a 356 hood handle crest, so has the necessary pin mounted on the backside. I'm thinking it would be helpful to leave that on and press it into the horn pad after careful alignment. That would give it an extra measure of hold along with the cement. Will this interfere with anything under the surface of the horn pad itself? Thanks

Picture when complete please, I've thought about doing this as well.

I left the pin on and used a conservative amount of black RTV for my black horn pad. I've had zero issues for over 5 years now.

I used a standard craft cement that my wife uses for making candy trays out of antique plates and candlesticks. It's held up great - glue is called e6000. I doubt it would come off without harming the pad. Used pads are like $35 though, so picking one up is cheap insurance.

I ordered mine from Pelican - while I think it looks great, it does not look like Porsche original. Has a little less detail in the stamping than my hood crest does. However, you never notice it.

Dremeled off the pin. Had to tape the crest with masking tape while the glue dried to keep it from sliding down the face of the wheel. In retrospect, taking the pad off and laying it flat on the bench may have been a better way to go. I thought about creating a crest-shaped depression in the pad to put the crest into so that you don't see the metal edge. Then I thought "overthinking this" and just glued it on. Leaving the pin on would have kept it more stable I guess, but it's been fine.
