Has anyone cut open their stock muffler to make more sound?
I have seen the prices for new mufflers $$$$$. Is there an alternate method to get more noise? I hate using my horn. When the light turns green and the guy in front of you is talking on the phone.... I would rather blip my throttle, and be heard vs. beeping the horn. Don't want obnoxious, but would like to be heard.

Some great info on this mod in this thread-
You might want to consider going with an aftermarket muffler like Magnaflow or others that are less pricey.

If you add another exhaust pipe from the muffler (ie the Bullhorn style muffler), the noise will increase. Otherwise, if you search, there are instructions and diagrams how to make a dual outlet 'sport' muffler, but most find that a bit too much for a street driven car.

Man did I! It's got great sound.
Don't know why Oh HaHa's link isn't going to my thread when I click on it but here it is again just in case. I need to upload a sound clip or youtube video. I think it sounds really nice. It's slightly quieter than my brother's B&B header and muffler setup without all the drone. Anyone else gut their factory muffler? |

Make sure to look at page 2 of my thread. The last pic is what I ended up doing. I fabbed a "U" tube to direct more flow to the outlet and stepped my outlet up to 2.5" and to finish it off I put on a 4" tip. I didn't like how the original muffler didn't fill the opening in the lower rear valance and the 4" tip does that nicely. I had a muffler shop expand bend the 2.5" pipe then cut it to make things work. If someone looks closely they'll notice the 2.5" doesn't enter the tip straight. I had the muffler shop expand the tip end, put the tip on, marked the inside 2.5" and cut it off so there wasn't much extending into the tip then spot welded the tip on.

Sorry about the messed up link..
Thanks cabmando for the back up. ![]() BTW-I have a 1 in/1out Flo-Pro on my SC with the factory Euro premuffler. I love the sound and the total cost was less than $100.

Something I should warn you about, if you cut the lid of the way my brother and I did, be ready to use a lot of wire to get it welded back shut. I started with Stainless wire and gas and once I ran out of that said "screw that" and finished it with my migflux wire and just stitched it back together. BE CAREFUL this stuff is thin and you can burn through it easily. thin wire and low heat is your friend on this project.
