Replacing bettery
Though it's been on a bettery maintainer all winter, it looks like the Duralast battery in my 84 Targa isn't holding a charge anymore and needs to be replaced. Other than perhaps losing some radio presets, is there anything on the DME system that requires I keep 12 volts going while I swap out the battery?
I'd like to downsize this anchor while I'm at it, and I understand there is a smaller size that utilizes the alternate mounting hole. Any downsides to the smaller battery for a car that's not driven in the winter? Thanks for any advice!

The Interstate battery with same CCA is less wide than the OEM style.
No, no need to worry about the swap out. Just take care not to over torque the connectors. If you fracture the connector, it will not charge. Alternate mounting holes? Not that I recall.

Though I haven't hauled the battery out yet, I seem to remember someone posting that there are two mounting holes at the forward side of the battery to accomodate a different sized battery as well.

There are definitely two mounting holes to attach the battery clamp in my 84.

A pic of what I did. Uses the second hold down bolt location and a mounting plate I got off of eBay specially for the Optima. Just a suggestion. :-)

I went with an Odyssey 925 battery and a Rennline mount system. A bit pricey but well made and very good tie down.

No picture, but YES, just one bolt on the negative terminal end plus the factory lip on the positive terminal end works great.
