Anyone know this car in Florida? - 1972 updated
Need some help from the Community -
I would appreciate any information that you can give about this car - who and where work was done, any history. It is a 1972 911T I am considering but the current owner "knows nothing". Still has 915 and 2.4. Thanks in advance ![]()

A '72 that was updated to an impact bumper car? That makes me suspicious. As has been noted there are a lot of scams in the Florida area. Have you seen the car in person or has this all been email/phone? My spidey senses would be tingling.

Thanks for the reply - the owner is in my area, and yes, I am very curious. I have seen updates to impact bumpers before, but I like to know 'why'.
I am going to see it in person tomorrow - Thanks,

The impact bumper update is very common. Early 911s were just old cars and a lot of owners wanted to update the body style when the newer cars came out. New bumpers, fenders and hoods were cheaper than new cars.
I say go for it if the car is clean underneath. Carefully check to see if the front latch panel was updated in the process. If not, it would be easy to swap back the longhood parts - except for the rear flares. The 2.4 and 915 are correct for the car. There is no way to tell who did the work or when it was done unless there are records from the current or previous owners. Don't let the current seller get $$$$ in his eyes at the current valuation of early cars. Yes, it may be a 72 but will cost serious money to "right-date" it back to an original look. Discount needed for efforts involved.

Wonder if they left the external oil filler door?
I have always liked the '72 because of that quirk. |

I finally saw and inspected the car. Overall the body and tub were in great shape except for these things:
1. conventional oil tank incorporated and 72 external oil filler appears to be a massive chunk of bondo. At least that is what my magnet tells me. At least it is still there, though missing the cover. 2. front nose crudely grafted on including pan forward of fuel tank and original battery areas in inner liner. 3. floor pan under pedals rusted 4. floor pan on passenger side forward of seats only 5. non original seats - they are shot anyway. We are coming closer on price and I want to take it back to '72 and eliminate the impact bumpers etc. Thanks for all the comments -
