Roll cage and tub frame front end size OD specs?
Getting ready to order a new tubing bender. I will be doing a full cage and doing a mild tube frame front end. I was planing on ordering two sets of dies 1" with a 5" radius and 1-3/4" with a 7" radius.
I was wondering if anyone had a different opinion on die sizes and why? Other die sets that are available 1" on 5" radius, 1-1/4" on 5" radius, 1-1/2" on 7" radius, 1-5/8" on 7" radius, 1-3/4" on 7" radius. |
Most full cages use 1 1/2" tubing.
I would recommend reading the safety/cage requirements for the organization(s) you intend to be involved with. Building a cage requires some experience and expertise. What welding experience do you have? |
I have done two bars one in my old rock crawler and my old auto x car. I used 1 3/4 120w dom on both, as far as welding I have done a lot of other projects and fabrication such and tube fenders, frame mods etc. A buddy and I went half in on a tube bender a few years age but he moved a way in the middle of a project and bought it and took it with him. I thought it was time to buy my own. As far a rules it will be a week end, track day car no rules. The car is a 1970 911 thats in the middle of a mid engine conversion that may or may not be converted to a v8.
I was thinking about using 1.5 dom and trying to get it as close to the a and b pillars as I can so it would not hurt the visibility and cut down on space. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/310467-ultimate-roll-cage-thread.html The jeep 97 TJ http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...pszd35j9ed.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...pswqgyxgeh.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfkasoslj.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...psa45otkub.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...pslejpbvnf.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...psficf41rp.jpg 91 MX5 http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfd0a4493.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps18e05129.jpg |
