Hi to all on this forum. I just registered as a new member. Have been reading the posts for a couple of days and it looks like a good BBS. Realized my big dream about a month ago and got myself an 89 911 Targa, slate gray with 117k miles. Was a daily driver but very well maintained. I surprised myself and got it on e-Bay. I never thought I would buy a car through the Internet. I had been looking for about two years, mostly to see what’s out there and what prices people were actually willing to pay. Then I found this one from a private party that I really liked and it was only 70 miles away. Went to see the guy a week before the auction ended, test drove, and inspected the car, spent 1/2 hour going through the records and made my bid. Ended up as the high bidder and meeting reserve, so the deal was done. Picked it up a week later.
Ever since I was a kid really loved this car. Love especially the sound of the air-cooled engine. You can recognize it from a mile away. Then the shape of the body… Guess you all know the disease… Had promised myself that I was going to get one before I turned 40. Then we bought a house, then the baby came. Luckily have a very supportive wife who made sure I got my dream car. Just made it 8 months before my deadline… Now I’m still getting used to it. It’s sitting in the garage and I’m surprised to see it each time I open the door like I can’t really believe it. I would like to make it a nice weather daily driver. I live 23 miles from work so the car has time to warm up. Unfortunately mostly freeway driving. Covered in the garage here, covered in a nice large parking spot at work. Still getting used to the driving too. Might be interested in DE one of these days. Need to spend a couple of weekends on the house first to finish some projects otherwise I would be in trouble with the wife. I’m sure I will have lots of technical questions. Used to do quite a bit of work on my Saabs with the moral support from the Saabnet. Hope it will be the same for the Porsche. Guess I better order my Bentley soon (love that book for the Saabs). For those interested, I think the page is still active on e-Bay. Search for item number 593787016. Has pictures of the car. ------------------ Harold 89 911 Targa 89&91 Saab 900 |

Welcome to the group. Nice looking car! From the description, it sounds like you got a well-maintained daily driver so it should be mechanically sound - how's the interior and paint work?

Small world...I looked at that car and almost had a PPI done (decided I wanted a coupe instead of a targa). It is a *very* clean car, and the owner is a great guy. The only thing I thought was that it might need new shocks, but other than that it felt great.
Congrats...I think you got a good one! |
