I got the G50 shifter back in.... I sure wish I knew how I did it!
 
OK, so this post has no point at all, except for perhaps for me to express my amazed bewilderment (or bewildered amazement).

After putting all new O-rings and bushings into my factory G50 shifter, and having the shift rod powdercoated satin black, I set out to put the thing back in the car. Hey, it popped out of there, so certainly it should pop back in.

I'm so naive!

I struggled with that sucker for the better part of a half hour. Dang, there was no way it was going back in... I'm not talking about needing a few more millimeters of rearward movement of the shift rod so that it would clear the 'funnel shaped' shift bushing... no, I needed more like 3.8" ... No way that's going back in.

Anyway, as I was pushing on the coupler (which didn't seem to move at all) I heard a slight 'clunk' .. I looked up at the shifer and the rod was through the bushing.

I have no idea why... but I am so happy that it's all back together.

See, I told you it had no point... Oh, maybe just to strike a blow for perseverance!

Hi Rob, I'm about ready to embark on the same project. Do you have any recommendations...
