Engine Drop wire question

I am so close to finishing my first engine drop. It is really easy but I am still learning my way around.

I have a wire that I can't figure out where to disconnect and I need someone who is experienced with the 77 model to answer my question.

The three wires you see go through a rubber block, that serves as a grommet on the rear of the engine tin, have three wires: two go to the starter. The other one, shown in black, disappears into the engine wiring harness under the intake manifold as it heads to the rear of the car. As it continues to the front, it disappears near the front of the transmission where the transmission mount are.

Any one know what this wire is? And what to do about it when dropping the engine?

I believe it goes to the nose cone of the transmission, for the reverse light switch. Would be two wires with bullet type connectors.

That would be great if it was simply that! I'll check tomorrow.

Thank you!

Don't these come thru the firewall?

I kids remember the ones with the rubber block going to the starter. The yellow one is for the thermoswitch. I think. Been awhile for me.

It should be the cable to the reverse switch at the back of the tranny. Comes with the engine and tranny if you drop them together.

No sir, it's part of the engine wiring harness and goes through that rubber block in his picture.

Here is a pic of my new harness timmy2 made for me. I don't know how to draw a circle around the connectors in question but you can see the cable coming out of the rubber block like the one in the OP pic. It ends with the two bullet type connectors with a rubber boot.

From your picture it looks like you are dropping the engine without the tranny.
So, pull the cap off the reverse switch connector, pull out the 2 wires to the switch. There is a clamp on the tranny housing holding a plastic guide tube that surrounds the cable you need to undo and the cable should come out with the rest of the harness.

Wire identification.........

I am away from home and I have a new wire harness from Dennis (Timmy2). If my memory serves me right, these wires go to the starter (?). There is no yellow wire in the wire harness going to the nose of the transmission. He (Dennis) should be able to identify these wires in his sleep.
