Center line rims

Ok now I just can't make up my mind. I'm torn between Ruf wheels at $1800 or these center lines.

I like both of them. Money does matter. Any thought on the center lines. I was think I could buy these and still sell two and make a couple bucks back.
But then again the Ruf wheels look so nice.

What kind of car do you have? Do you ever want to upgrade the brakes? If so, stay away from the 15" centerlines.

How do you plan to use them? They're not good for the track. They don't provide good brake ventilation. And I would be concerned about stiffness under lateral load.

If you want them for the street I'm sure they would be fine.

I have four of the same. 2 were out of round about an 1/8" when I bought them. But no bends or lateral runout. They have to be drilled wrong. I would be leary if I couldn't check them out. But, there ought to be 4 good ones out of 6, maybe..........

Cool

In the '70s Centerline and American Racing Equipment were two of the more common aftermarket suppliers of wheels for Porsche.

Centerlines for Porsche were distributed by Doug Cook Racing. They were the only ones (commonly available in those days) that were lighter than Fuchs. They could be had in various widths and offsets. They are made by spinning aluminum. I do remember seeing some double thickness hubs that were for stock car racing ('merican iron). These wheels were popular for racing around the St Louis region.

Good luck,
David Duffield

I have a set of 2 (15x7) and 2 (15x8) Centerlines like the ones pictured. They are taking up space in my garage and I would sell them for $100 plus shipping.

E-mail me if anyone is interested and I can send pictures.

I had a set of those exact wheels I ran for a season on the '66 911 I started autocrossing in. They are 2-piece spun aluminum discs that are riveted together, not bolted. They are light and strong enough to race, but you should have a cooling system installed leading directly to the calipers, since they offer no external ventilation, and you can't take the halves apart to reseal them.

I had a slow leak start up in one from the center seam. By dismounting the tire, I was able to scrape out the old silicone bead that seals the seam and squirt on a new bead. I know several other people who experienced the same sort of leak. I sold the rims with the car so don't know how long my repair has held up.

BTW, $500 (the Buy It Now price) is crazy expensive for those rims. I paid $100 for all four of my 7 x 15"s.
