This is what I'm considering for exhaust...

My '83 SC is getting a '97 993 motor. I am keeping the stock headers/heat exchangers and that strange 2-in 2-out catalytic converter.

There is no room for 993 mufflers. JonT has just put exhaust tips on the cat, and he loves it. He says it's real loud, but he loves it.

Instead of that approach, I was thinking of a pair of Powertone mini-tips. They are only 7" long. I know they probably won't quiet it down a lot, but I'm thinking it might be just enough.

I'm sticking with the stock cat because it may be my best bet to get a prized smog certificate. What do you think?

Moses: I looked into this...

...but I can't remember if the exhaust ends at the muffler tips or if they incorporate a new exhaust system. I know the owner tested them on his own SC, but I wanted the opinion of more people as to how well this system works. Also what will you use for a cross-over pipe to create more torque? Unless the catalytic acts as the crossover.

The cat is a crossover. I'm just hoping to quiet the system a bit being very short on space.

Those might work but will require some tricky welding work to get them to mate with the 993 cat. You'll understand this when you see the cat installed. The tips point up and need to be cut off to accomodate new tips that point down at an angle to clear the valance--which will need some cutting too.

It looks like I can unbolt the cat and flip it upside down. Now the ends should point down! We'll see.
