Removing Throttle Linkage on Transmission to Install Bushings
'84 911 Carrera: want to install missing (disintegrated) bushings on throttle linkage at transmission. The car is raised and supported at the torsion bars so the rear wheels hang down. The fixed support rod off the transmission is very long, so that, when sliding the lever off, the Lever (911 423 017 01) intercepts the trailing arm way before it clears the support rod. Naturally, thinking about raising (gently jacking up) the left rear wheel (or jacking up left rear trailing arm, or lower left rear corner of the car, while supporting right side front and rear) in the hope of raising the 'A' arm enough, to slide the lever off. Otherwise would have to drop the 'A' arm, or remove the transmission (not).
Any experience with this? How does one remove the throttle lever with the transmission in the car? Could also split one Nylon bushing in two halves, close to the tranny, and work it in so that the confinement of the lever hollow shaft holds it together. Thanks, if you can help. |

I forget what I did, but it was something like unscrew the shaft or the like. I think there was a 10mm nut involved. It's one of the little tricks to working on these cars.

Thank you rusnak, just read your comment and went to the parts catalog and see that rod is indeed removable. Thanks again, now will try to carefully, with a spray of that blaster stuff on the threads in the tranny, remove this rod.

Just jack up the rear driver side wheel. Worked for me.

sharham, thanks for letting me know that my same idea would have worked. I did as rusnak suggested, removing the rod. It was easy, sprayed some blaster on it, used an 8 mm open end on the squared off end of the rod, with caution (was doubtful because of concern for thread damage), didn't give, sprayed again, tapped the rod with a screwdriver hoping, hoping a little vibration would work the penetrant in, and then, with my hands on the little 8 mm open end wrench shaft, and no other leverage, it gave, and came off easily.
