What kind of 911 do i have?

Hello

New user here from Norway, making first post :)

I recently bought a 1977 Porsche 911 2.7 CIS, Chassisno: 9117302401.

The car has been sitting in storage for 17 years, and is in decent condition. Originally imported from Germany. The car has Turbo-look on it. Ive tried to figure out if this is original mounted on the factory or if it was rebuilt later, but havent been able to come to a conclusion. Did the cars with factory turbo-look come with different brakes?

The car has 8x15 and 10x15 Fuchs wheels on it.

What are these called? I Understand the 78 onwards with 3.0 are called SC. Is mine a 911S?

What are the main chassis differences between mine and the SC? As im thinking of converting to 3.2 and G50.

Thanks for replies :)

Tommy

You have one of the last 50 1977 911 normal ROW chassis made.

Look around at that tail closely. It might be factory. If so, it is worth some money. Also look at the part numbers and date on your wheels. Also worth some money. The flares are NOT original to the car, but could be factory steel.

Looks like it's a 911S to me.

The 3.2 will be an easy swap but the G50 swap is a MAJOR bit of work to change out the torque tube and the back seat area sheet metal. It can and has been done and I'm sure if you search you can find info. The 915 trans in there now can handle the 3.2 just fine.

Thanks alot for your help guys :)

So i have to change some of the rear Seat sheet metal as well?

Going 3.2 turbo, and dont like mating that up to a 915 :)

Personally, I would keep the turbo body. You can stuff wider tires under the flares, thus a bigger contact patch which is beneficial with more power.

X2 you may have some expensive parts, part numbers if you can find them would be useful. Also post an interior picture or two, are those sport seats?

Nice project enjoy!

Thanks for yours replies guys.

The wheels have porsche part numbers and are genuine fuchs 8x15 and 10x15.

I fully intend on keeping the turbo look :)

Fuchs never made a 10x15, so you might want to check those rear wheels again. They made a 9x15 and an 11x15. A 10x15 would have to be a custom wheel made from part of a stock Fuchs wheel welded to a rim from another wheel.

If they are 11x15, they are worth some serious money. They look more like 9x15 wheels to me, than 11x15.

Sry.

By measuring the rear wheels i found out that these are in fact 11" wide.

The part no on them are 911.361.020.11 as seen on the pic.

911.361.020.11 is the part number for an early 7x15 wheel. That's an indication that yours have been made from part of an original Fuchs wheel and another rim that has been welded on. Look for a 7x15 stamping near the Porsche logo on the back side.

A 9x15 is 911.361.020.03. An 11x15 is 911.361.020.05

The G50 is larger at the front end so the sheet metal is a bit different. There is a shorter end that can be used but I have never used it. This may allow for the sheet metal to remain.

Matt Monson 03-11-2015 08:38 AM

The torsion tubes need to be modified to install a G50.

Send pictures of the rear brake disks and calipers so we can see the trailing arms as well.
Then also send pics of the front ones and the front struts.

Any info greatly appreciated as im completely new to Porsche.

Will 3.3 turbo brakes bolt straight on here?

scarceller 03-11-2015 12:00 PM

Does not appear to have turbo rear trailing arms. So my guess is the wide body work was added at some point and not factory.

But it does have bilstien struts (green ones) at the front and that's nice.

Will defer to those more knowledgeable, but real turbo brakes are mounted on the back side of the rear rotors. Those look like they are on the front side. Not sure if it matters or not when doing a swap.

Correct, my factory wide body has them on the back. This car seems to be setup as a stock narrow body car from the late 70s like the SCs.

HorstP 03-11-2015 12:14 PM

a G50 can be shortened to fit in a non-G50 body, hence no welding/cutting on torsion tubes. Not cheap however. There is somebody relatively close to where I live (Munich) doing that tranny work
