My seatbelt project

Hi Everyone,
I've decided to change my seat belts in my 83sc since the old ones are really looking frayed and sunbaked.
After trying to find decent used ones I decided to buy new from seatbelt planet.
Gave them a call and they have a kit for our 911's that is not yet on their web site.
You can customise them to your taste for color and stiching but I decided to keep it stock.

Just recieved my seatbelts and I'm planning on installing them this weekend.
Quality looks amazing and they provide evrything apart from the bolts.
Should be simple.
I'll send pics as I go.

That looks pretty nice! Mine are pretty limp looking and don't retract well. What was the cost for them?

Nice. I'll have to investigate this as well.

Sounds like a fantastic investment in basic safety. I think I will put this on my list.

I'm curious to hear if they wind up/retract well when you remove them. I updated to 993 belts for that reason. Would be nice to know that there's an alternative.

I'm in same boat. Putting in 3 point belts from a 964 into my '85 Targa.
One thing I came across in my research was that the "reels" on many non-OEM units are too big to fit under the shelf. Might want to double check before installing. Good luck! Dave

I have an 82 SC and was about to buy factory replacement belts. Keep us informed of how they work out. They look great and the price is great.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay, I'm still stuck in the cold and snow here.
My wife and I got sick of it and are leaving tomorrow for Curaçao for a week.
I hope when we get back its warmed up enough to dig out my baby and get my projects done before the roads are clean.

I will post as soon as I start them.
Cheers

Howiee....I replaced my seat belts (83sc) with belts from seat belt planet last year. I'm satisfied. They even added a little extra length at my request. Retract just fine. In hind sight, only problem is I had to send them my old belts which were factory originals. Now I understand they are worth a bit of money....guess I wish I had held onto them and had them re-webbed.

Hi TX911SC
Can you explain, are you saying that you would rather just have bought replacement new ones and kept your old (worn) ones for possible resale? Or did you want them to replace your worn webbing and send you back your originals refurbished? The reason I ask is I have a set that either need refurb or replacement. What option would you take in hindsight? Thanks

So I dug my car out of the snow and got it home last night.

Started taking apart the seat belts and ran into a problem upon installing them

Looks like the belt is twisted going from the real to the shoulder part on the B pillar.

Checked my old one and all the parts are aligned the same.

Is this the way they are supposed to be?

Here are some pics….

Shouldn't be twisted. Won't rewind properly. Take your reel off and turn it to untwist. They didn't look like that in your original pic.

also make sure it lays across your lap and chest straight when its buckled in. you might have some untwisting to do

I untwisted the belt at the top but now the twist happens across the chest.

The strange part is I checked the old seat belt and that seems to be the way they were.

Is it the way Porsche designed it?

Maybe that's why my original webbing is worn out and stretched...

Can anyone check there originals and let me know if that's the way they are suppose to be?
