Cracked dash, suggestions anyone???

I have an 88 911 with a dash with a lot of cracks. Pelican doesn't sell a dash cover for this year. All they have is a re-upholstery kit which involves removing the dash. Does anyone know if some body else makes a dash cover for this year? If not, has anyone ever removed a dash from an 88 911? The porsche shop manual says you have to remove the windshield but I read somewhere that's only on earlier cars then mine. Are there instructions somewhere of how to remove the dash?? Seems like it would be a pain of a job to remove. Thanks guys.

No windshield removal required for your car year.

I bought one from dashcaps.com they make them for 87-98 911s. I covered mine in black Alcantara.

If you decide not to go the cover route...

The dash on my '68 was cracked in half and had a second really deep crack. Tony at Autobahn Interiors made it look like new OEM.

Take your time and try to find a OEM dash, they are out there. In a few years you will be thankful. Many trendy things done on Porsches in the 80s, 90s look foolish now and make them sale proof. Do your self a favor and save yourself and your car from that.

cracked dash

Hey Rob
Your dash cover looks great. Was it hard to install? Your interior looks pretty awesome, post some more pics if you have some. Still wondering if the dash is hard to remove and re-install.

Thanks all

Thanks. Installing the cap is really easy. There was no trimming required. Just use the glue that comes with the cap, and does not take a lot of glue either. The important step is putting evenly distributed weight across the top to hold it down while the glue cures. I left it alone for 24 hours and so far no probs.
Here's another pic or two......

this was just before new dash was installed

rear seat delete with new german squareweave

The Marine Blue dash in my '87 had an ugly crack in it when I bought the car. I found a virtually new OEM dash out of an '87 that someone was selling online. Unfortunately it was black, but I had a local interior restoration place re-color it to match the rest of the Marine Blue trim in my car. I just had it installed yesterday and I think it came out pretty nice.

WHAT... IS THIS CORRECT???
The only thing that is keeping me from replacing my dash is removing the windshield.
Are you sure? If so that will be my next project... after installing the almost $700 worth if suspension parts that came in last week

Yes, true, all 86 and newer do not require windshield removal. Access to nuts through gauge holes and trunk. I haven't removed mine yet, this will be one of my upcoming winter projects, but I was also elated when I found out I didn't have to remove my perfect Windshield and seal.

Good luck,
Dan

cracked dash

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the additional pics of your car. How did that rear seat delete work? Is the carpeting just going over where the speakers were? What about the vinyl that was behind the seats, was that removed or carpeted over? Car looks great

If I'm reading this right, you bought one of their ABS plastic caps, and then had it covered by another company? How did you install it, did the windshield have to come out?
By the way, your car looks awesome!

Thanks again. I stripped EVERYTHING out. Put in damplifier (sound deadener) and then the new German Squareweave.

Right, bought the cap and then covered it with Alcantara. Installed without removing windshield. It was a perfect fit, just "snapped" in with the supplied adhesive bonding it to the dash underneath.
