Battery area storage
Anyone aware of any sort of storage system available for the stock battery location? I recently relocated mine to the smugglers box and would love some sort of nice storage unit for oil and such.

What year? Do you have dual batteries?

1985 Coupe, so a single battery, which is now in the smugglers box. I would like something in the stock location that looks good and secures a bottle or two of oil, some gloves, and perhaps some rags.

Looks like I need to go do some measuring. These are excellent.

Curious to understand why you relocated the battery. Just for looks (which I would agree cleans up the trunk)? Weight distribution wise I would think moving the battery makes things worse, not better, correct?

I thought that moving weight towards the center did help handling.

It does. See Audi for an example of why hanging half the car over the front axle is a terrible idea.

except we don't drive Audis. With all the weight in the back I still believe moving the battery does no support better handling. But the difference is probably small.

You are probably right, remember the factory fix to the handling of early 911s was to put two weights in the front bumper to off set the rear bias.

Shrug, it's part of my comprehensive approach to remove and center the weight of the car.

Please don't take offense. I'm struggling with the same dilemma on my 1979 SC. I changed to manual window cranks, all A/C components are gone (so I have an empty Smugglers box), rear seat delete (but put a 964 DAS bar in its place) lightweight carpet and am now working on a long hood fiberglass rear bumper.

Manual window cranks certainly are tempting. Given how small the car is, that wouldn't be that hard to use...
All of my AC stuff is gone except the front condenser, fender mount dohicky, and some lines.

Moving battery weight forward is a good thing in an early 911.
