Oil Type
My 83SC has 183K miles and I have been using Valvoline 20-50 oil as recommended by my mechanic. I have just seen an ad by Valvoline for a new oil that will refresh seals. Has anyone thought about this for high mileage engines? I know additives are not recommened and I have not used any. Just thought this might be better since it is an oil or would it be the same as putting an additive to existing oil?
TIA

Most all motor oils have additives for seal protection. If what you are using works, why fix it?

Let me re-phrase that;
. . .seals are made from elastomers. Not everyone uses the same recipe for their elastomeric seals. Also, not every one uses the same recipe for their oil additives. So your 83SC w/ 183K miles, using Valvoline 20-50 . . it sounds like you already have a good match. (your seals havn't turned to bubble-gum nor shrunken rock)

I was just looking at an oil leak that seems to be coming from #4 head. I do know I probably have an intermediate shaft cover o- ring leak also but will be fixing that soon.
Thanks Dr. Island

You may want to check your lower headstuds. SC's with snapped studs can lead to a small oil leak.
