I am not a doctor either, I hope there is some way you can enjoy the car other than actually driving it.

You need not drive them to enjoy them.

Think of all the times you just smiled as a nice car drove by.

Very sorry to hear about this Si - my stepdad passed last year after a 6 year bout with Parkinson's - so this hits pretty close to home. I'm currently the caretaker of his Boat - he had muscle cars over the years too. Hang in there - My sister lives in Ft Worth - so if you need anything let me know

Sorry to hear that man, its what we all dread to hear but will have to make that decision some day. If a doctor says you should not you might want to listen. Think of the others on the road if you all of a sudden have a bad day or moment. A guy hit my wife and 4 year old on my 4 year olds birthday and nearly took them out. They were rattled for months. Her Jeep liberty was totaled. The guy driving was in Hospice and we don't know why he was driving at all. He survived the wreck but ended up passing away from what ever he had only months later. All sad stuff. Maybe you have someone you can drive your cars around for you so you can still enjoy them. Turn a wrench as long as you can man maybe get out on the track
Be safe and take care.
Best regards,
Erick

Friend, I am not a doctor but I think that the safe thing to do would be to have someone else drive with you as passenger.

I can't imagine the process you are dealing with right now and in the future. Know that your Pelican buddies will be thinking of you.

All the best from my family to yours.

first, good luck. parkinson's is no easy task to handle. i have had a few friends with it. my heart goes out to you.

that being said, would you ask your doctor how to do a valve adjustment or an oil change on your 911? i know it's hard losing what you once had but you have to listen to the professionals when they tell you something. if you want a second opinion ask another doctor, not an online car forum.

My wife was just diagnosed with Parkinson's after about 10 years of minor symptoms. Finally a referral to the specialist resulted in the diagnosis. Since starting the medication she has improved immensely. In talking with others I hear that as a last resort there is brain surgery. Apparently one patient has recovered so well that his Parkinson's is no longer apparent. If so, I do not quite understand why it is the last resort. Best of luck, and I hope that you can get some relief. The specialist recommends Tai Chi exercises as treatment.

I think that's a car collection most here, including myself, would be quite envious of! Some stellar rides you've piloted.

Also true.

Good luck!

Your wife can drive you around in it. Riding in the car is still quite fun! It can still put a BIG GRIN on your face!

Best Wishes!

Very sorry to hear ,my neighbor also has parkinsons and just standing there talking to him is hard, BUT every sunday he pulls his harley out of the garage and takes it out. Me and my wife just watch him and feel good that he isnt letting this terrible disease stop him from doing what he loves. Hopefully you too will still be able to enjoy what you love.

Sorry to hear it. Parkinson's is a really tough disease. But it sounds like you have had one hell of a run. I hope I can quote 1/5th of your car ownership when I am your age.

That said, I am a doc. No one can assess your competence to drive without knowing and examining you personally. This is a great place to seek common experience and understanding, but not medical advice.

There is going to be some point when you are going to need to do the right thing for yourself, your family, and others out on the road. The better part of valor would be to do that before there is an accident or someone gets hurt. Don't place the burden of this decision on your wife or your family or even your doctor. Talk to your doctor and be open to the possibility that now may be that time. It might not be, but LISTEN. Trust me, this is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.

My Father at similar age had to come to the same sad conclusion to stop driving after a couple near incidences and sell his 32 chopped coupe. We came to the resolution to have me buy it and keep it in the family since it was his life dream to own and build.

This allows the car to stay near and me to take him for rides and continue to bond through the automobile and gain new experiences.

P is a hard battle, but I hope the best for you in your car and general voyage. Just cause you can't drive it in anger shouldn't mean you give up enjoying it entirely.

God Speed and best of luck in this battle.

Jay what terrible news. You never once mentioned this in our telephone conversations.

I have your custom engine lid hinges on my desk and admire them greatly every day. Hope to get them on my car soon.

Take Mark up on his offer and let your wife drive you to Porsche Paloosa next year in Eureka Springs, AR. If I can be of help please let me know.

Hang in there Jay.

My dad has Parkinson's too. We are fortunate to have lots of specialty care here. I think for him what really helps is lots of movement and speech therapy. He belongs to a singing group and dances a bit as part of the therapy. However, he refuses to play bingo with the boys. He says after 75 years of not playing he is not going to start now He gave up driving a couple of years ago which was tough. Good luck.
