new purchase

The reason I'm posting this thread is not to get into another 996 vs 911 debate, but to just thank all of you for the advise and guidance I've received from you all. I got rid of my 88 cab and bought a 2000 C4. When I first bought my cab, I didn't know how to change the oil. But with all of your help, I not only changed the oil, but adjusted the valves, and to be truthfully, I was kind of looking forward to dropping the engine to do my clutch. My 88 was a very sweet car, but the top leaked real bad and I started to have electrical problems. Anyway, thanks again. I posted a few pics of my "new" car.

Hey Billy,

Nice car. Tell us what you think about the difference between your 1988 and the 2000 model. I have never driven anything newer than 1987.

There is a big difference. The 88 was a go cart on steriods and it was very unique. But I'm actually very pleased with the new purchase. Full subtile leather, awd and cab top. Everything works on the car, heat and A/C. It doesn't have that air-cooled sound, but these are some very amazing machines. When they first came out, I hated them, but now I can't wait to drive it again. I can hit 100mph in 4 gear and still have 2 more to go. One thing I can say; the more I drive it, the less I miss my 88.

Nice car, but I'm a biased 2000 C4 Cab owner. Put in the Porsche Sports Exhaust for a better aural experience. It isn't the classic air-cooled sound, but much better than the sewing machine whisper of the stock exhaust. I've gotten very good rear tire wear. Perhaps the AWD evens things out a bit compared to the C2. I have had some niggling problems (coolant expansion tank replacement, upper strut mount replacement). The latter was a great excuse to install the ROW M030 suspension.
I went the other direction, though, and bought a 70 911T Targa last year. They are both fun cars.

I felt the same way...but now I find myself looking at a 996 for my next p-car instead of a 993. How wierd is that?

996 is a far superior chassis. The 993 parts costs are just as outrageous, so it's probably not as crazy of an idea as it seems.

Nice car, but what are the four indentations/reflectors/silver buttons for as seen on the back bumper?

And the winner is Mambodave. They are parking sensors.

Before you spend your money on aftermarket mufflers, check out this discussion on Rennlist about modding your mufflers for a more throaty sound.
