Removing omega spring?

How do you remove the omega spring from the splined shaft at the end of the release arm? This thing is on tighter than Dick's hatband!

Dremel it off, being especially careful not to injure the shaft splines in any way. The spring is toast, so make sure it takes all the stress in removal. The new spring will be a nice interference fit.

EDIT: So Dremel it off means using a Dremel tool's small round cutting saw and I remember going slightly diagonal in the cut, just barely cutting through the individual (last, really) spring sheathes (sp?). Then judicious use of two small screwdrivers to break the cut and gently pry back the spring from the post.

Got it. I'm almost done now. My wife just informed me I'm making too much noise so I'll finish tomorrow. So close! :-/

Thanks for the tip.

For the new one, use a bunch of washers, tape together and use a VISE or C-clamp to press it on :D

Some models (like mine, an 82SC) have a small, frustrating pin at the end of the shaft that's holding it in place.

They're much easier to remove when they've already broken off. ;)

Yea, this was part of that "while you're in there slippery slope"...
