Reputable Porsche mechanics in Melbourne, Australia?

One most likely for any Aussie members.
I am looking for better Porsche mechanics in the Melbourne area?
I have heard lots of interesting stories however need some advice on where/ who would be a good start?
Any info appreciated.
Thanks

I hear very good things about Louis Giossis of Motion Automotive. My '76 has been there many times, but before my ownership. I get my 911s worked on by a family friend who is a retired Porsche Tech. In fact, he owned his own shop and retired young. He does tinker work at home to keep him busy. My '89 was predominantly worked on by the Porsche Centre Melbourne, prior to me getting it.

Fitzgerald Racing Services is also a very classy operation. They also specialise in regular maintenance etc. There are quite a few guys on this BBS from Melbourne. They'll chime in soon, with their recommendations, I'm sure.

Joe,

You have to work off the assumption that every Porsche specialist in Melbourne is going to rape you. They will. They do.

My advice is this: visit every Porsche specialist, try and meet with the Big Kahuna, talk rates, and then sit down and reflect on each visit, ruminate on the vibes and how you got along with the people you met with. Did they seem genuine? Were they chatty? Were they paying you lip service? Were they smarmy? Were they brusque?

Joe, I'm sorry, but it really comes down to who you'd rather have packing your fudge.

Good luck!

DDR has always been with Porsche Centre Melbourne. I think their prices are fair (some parts prices are actually very low), they clearly know their stuff and there is always something to be said for doing business with someone who's hip pocket is not directly affected by the invoice he hands you.

Cheers

I actually forgot to mention Spyder Automobiles in Cheltenham. John Gregory runs a very professional little shop, specializing in race cars and toys. He is reasonably priced and has been working on Porsches for 45 years. The man has forgotten more about Porsches than I'll ever know. He rebuilt my 915 transmission in the '76 a little over 18 months ago and it just gets better and better!

You should buy Wayne's 101 Projects book, a Haynes Manual and a factory workshop manual and give it a go yourself. That's what I'll be doing more of on the 2.7.

This comment suggests you've already been raped by a mechanic Joe

Is this the case? If so, join the PRVC (Porsche Rape Victim Club) my friend...

Joe,

Here's a list of mechanics in Melb:-

Porsche Centre
Peter Fizgerald
AutoArt
Weltmeister Service (9428 0662)
SpyderAuto
Motion Auto

There are a few Melbourne enthusiasts on this board who may be able to complete this list for you.

Good luck in your quest...

Paid up member of the PRVC here – in fact just worked out what this (financial) years subscription fees are going to cost . Should just buy a C2.

Oh yeah, don’t know whether he’s rated a mention yet but, George Cairns is also worth speaking to.

Cheers,

From the looks of it, this is "Joe's" first ever post on this BBS.

Is he genuine or is he just a passing phantom trying to suss out who says what about which workshop

Be on your best behaviour guys

FWIW (that means 'For What It's Worth' "Joe"), give each one of them a try until you find one you trust & like. Be sure to wear a 'Chastity Belt' during your trial period (ROFLMFAO)!!!

Chairman of PRVC...

But if a shop was confident that they were offering fair value for money and good service, they wouldn’t bother with such stealthy checking – would they?

LOL @ Paul

Great idea Adam! Post some pics Joe. We always welcome new Melbourne enthusiasts to this board

BTW, we are all having a drive day get together (organised by Vic on this BBS). Why don't you come along so we can meet you? Always good to see a "fresh" new Pelican in the flesh

Thumbs up

Guys,
Thanks for the responses.
I have an 82 SC which I bought almost 2.5 years ago as a weekender play thing. It is completely original down to the standard stereo which I can't bring myself to change!!I don't get enough time to drive it however it allways puts a smile on my face when I do! Brilliant!!
My introduction to Porsche was an test drive in an 84 Turbo 930. Wow!! (That bug bit really deep.)
I have actually bought the Bentley manual and Waynes book and have done minor service myself.
Just thinking ahead to when / if I need to get more extensive service done. So far I can't break it??
Have attached one my favourite views.

Joe,

You've gotta bring that puppy on our drive day. Send an email to Victor on this thread and come along.

The more the merrier!

Hi Joe, Victor here,

Bring either of those toys to the drive day. They rock.

Thumbs up G'day Joe

Mine had been serviced by its previse owner for 16 years by Auto Coupe up at Eltham.
I went there a couple of times mainly due to their past knowledge of the vehicle and service record.
Eltham is just too far for me so I'm with Melb' Porsche Centre now.
Prices are cheaper for service and parts.
They always discount the total, for me at least.
They give me an A3 loan car overnight, at no cost.
I like the written report summarising the things done and yet to do.
I love to drool over the other new and used cars while I'm there, but it's humbling.
The Mocha Latte is free.
