Interior Vinyl/leather Factory Glue?

When I took all the interior vinyl pieces and the headliner the glue used by the factory was still very strong after 36 years of Caribbean sun and cabin temperatures inside the cabin of 120+ degrees on a daily basis.

What will be the equivalent glue to use when putting all back together. I have used the 3M upholstery adhesive spray before, but when you apply heat the vinyl with a heat gun it will let loose.

Maybe what people are using for dash repair? Or good old contact cement on both surfaces?

Any guidance form people that have done this and their cars are exposed to the sun!

Thanks
Ivan

Its great stuff and bonds VERY tightly. Just be sure to give it enough time to tack up before you join the two pieces.

Relax, it's going. But without the Pelicans it will probably take twice the time. The amount of information from the great members of this forum is the best !

I wouldn't ask the Audi dealership in New Orleans.......as my brother bought a new Audi A6 a few years ago and the upholstery on the rear of the drivers seat back started to come apart, he asked them to repair it under warranty and they told him "the glue that Audi uses isn't compatible with the heat and humidity of New Orleans"......it was bye-bye Audi as he traded it a few days later.

I've used 3M Super 77 in some applications and if you put it on both pieces that get bonded, wait a minute or two then put the parts together you better be sure they go together correctly the first time.

Ivan,

Go to a upholstery shop and see what they recommend. There are some "commercial grade" 3M adhesive sprays out there that you couldn't pull apart without ripping the material - and it's a lot easier to use.

Spray both pieces of material - stick them together and you are don - forever. Contact cement isn't as good and it's messy.

I hear you and I think you are right regarding certain 3M adhesives. I would not discount the mentioned contact adhesive, though, unless you have experience with it.

Not pushing back because I know for sure, but if the Dap stuff works, worth a try??
