the thing with the 911 dist is you can really put it in any way you want and MAKE it work. it comes down to where you put the #1 plug wire on the cap.
assuming your car runs: with the way yours is configured, the #1 plug wire is not on the cap where it "normally" is. normally #1 is next to the spring clip on the side with the notch in the dist. your looks like it is on the other side and maybe 2 cylinders off. here is how to fix it. follow the plug wire from #1 cylinder. that is the one on the passengers side towards the front of the car. then (with dist installed like it was when it is capable of running), rotate the engine until Z1 is at TDC AND the contact point on the rotor is pointing towards where you followed the #1 plug wire. now slip the dist out just enough so the rotor can turn. (notice how the rotor turns as the dist comes out. it will do the opposite when going back in). turn the rotor so it point towrds the notch in the dist. (you will have to set it so that it is pointed to one side of the notch or the other.) slip the dist back it. the rotor will turn as it goes back in. if it is not pointing to the notch repeat with off setting the rotor so that it lines up when the dist is installed. pull all the wires off the cap. put the cap back on. starting on the side to the left of the spring cluip (according to your pic) put #1 wire there. i think you have a CW rotation so trace each wire and put them in 1-6-2-4-3-5. start engine and reset timing. you can also leave it like it is. you just have to be careful when changing plug wires because #1 is not where it normally is
