DME Switch (?)

Does anyone know what the light blue rotary switch inside the DME case is/does? It is covered on the outside by a rubber plug on my unit.

just curious

It's called the "fuel quality switch" usually. It switches between various combinations of richer mixtures and ignition retard. The "stock" position is the highest performance setting.
Hank Watt's posted this years ago. I'm too lazy to look it up in my manuals so...

Settings for the Carrera
brainbox rotary switch

Fuel mix Timing
0 Std Std
1 3% rich Std
2 6% rich Std
3 3% lean Std
4 Std 2.7 retard
5 3% rich 2.7 retard
6 6% rich 2.7 retard
7 3% lean 2.7 retard

Richness cools engine
Lean for high altitude;
Retard for bad fuel

I think there was a thread a while back that questioned whether it actually did anything or if it was just a placebo, esp on later cars. Any hard information?

I use my spare DME to get free cable.

:D

Can someone tell me where the DME is located and what it looks like. Thanks.

Under the driver's seat, unit is the box, relay is on the side of it.

Spare relay also good for speeding up computer hard disk, plug it into your dog's collar and it takes him for a walk;)

Can we tell him about using the DME relay to improve performance of the cool collar by 125%?

Or about using it to control the oven for perfect baked jacket potatoes?

;) ;) ;)

Those MFI guys are always saying how great MFI is. I bet they are jealous now! DME's rule!

Ask me about custom chipping your DME to control any household appliance, not just ovens.

Absolutely! I bet that with a bit of R&D the DME relay could even be used to stop microsoft programs from crashing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCWDP.....bunch of diletantes.....Tomorrow belongs to the DME relay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now going to autocad to develop the DME relay lapel badge, tie pin and cufflinks Xmas gift set with optional Hi Peformance chip to be ready for the Christmas Rush.

How do you modify the chip settings? What does the chio plug into in order to interface with a computer? What software do you use?

My knowledge of the DME so far is if I unplug it, the car can't get stolen very easily. It also helps me look like a jacka$$ when I get inside and try to start it (to impress an onlooker) only to remember that I have to get out, slide the seat up, etc.

Milu,
Don't forget the licensed action figures!
Mo Tronic: with his ElectroGrip is a racer & man of action
Deiter, Master Engineer - "DME" is Mo's crack race mechanic
The Mark 3.2 (III.II?) - Their enhanced race car
etc.
-Chris
P.S. Halloween better get here soon. I'm going through these little Reese's and Kit Kat's like they were um, candy. :D

Milu 10-30-2002 03:23 PM

Not forgetting:

SC..........Mo Tronic's bungling friend, always having to be rescued

The Ricer.........their arch enemy

And the big enigma.........Cayenne..............whose side is it on?

Ps It's already the 31st in my part of the world.........and the ghost of 911s past is wailing down a lonesome road in search of evil prey..............Ah hah, the Ricer and Cayenne are spotted driving in tandem.........could this mean....... Cayenne is a quisling? Find out more same time, same post, next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, I can see the Client presentation meeting I'm holding in a couple of hours time is going to be a real serious affair!
