77911s Tire Size

What is the original tire size for a 77 911 S? I am getting conflicting information from Tire Rack and Discount Tire (aka Americas Tire Co.).

Tire Rack: 185-70-15
Discount: 215-60-15

I just purchased the car and looks to have the original wheels (6") but came with a pair of wider matching 7" wheels which I thing I will use if they are not too wide for the narrow early style body. .

From searches here on the forum, I see that many are running 205-65-15 in the front with 225-60-15 in the rear. I assume the rears have wider wheels too in these applications.

If the Discount Tire recommendation is incorrect for an original size, it seems to be a good choice if I were to use the 6 inch wheels all around. Or not ??? Thanks!

I found this online:

1977 911 S Targa (911) | Specs | Excellence
Quote:
WHEEL SIZE FRONT 15 x 6
WHEEL SIZE REAR 15 x 6
TIRE SIZE FRONT 185/70VR-15
TIRE SIZE REAR 185/70VR-15

And found this in Pelican

I'm working on a narrowbody 2.7 s '75.
size tires for a 2.7 ??????

I used to have 50 series tires, but they looked like golf cart tires, and did not fill out the wheel arches. I recently switched to 60 series (Goodyear Eagle GT's - allseason) and feel it was the right move about 90% of the time.

No scraping yet, but no heavy passengers in the rear while trying to follow a modern Ferrari either.

Front: 205/60 R15

Rear: 215/60 R15
I had to grind off the inner flare return (inside part of rear wheel well lip), sealed the ends with paint. My rear wheels are wider than anything you listed, but be prepared to trim the inside return if you see problems.

My engine lid sticker says 185/70/15 which I think was standard for the mid year cars. I am running 205/60/15 since the 185/70/15 size is hard to find from most tire manufacturers anymore, Toyo Eclipse if that matters. I would not mind 185/70/15 simply because it looks more period original than what I have but I am not willing to pay extra for the rare tire size.

Thanks for the info. Targalid, do your tires rub at all? (205/60/15)

My 1973 came from 185/70-15 or 165-15's from the factory. Until I got some 16" Fuchs, I used 205/60-15 with no issues. FWIW, they were Toyo H-4's.

A very close fit in a current tire is a 195-65-15.

No rub even on a lowered car and the speedometer is accurate within one or two MPH depending on speed.

I have a 7mm spacer in the rear on the 77.

Nice stance, if it's not in the proper stance thread it should be.

No rubbing with 205/60/15. Not even close. The PO had 215/60/15 in the rear and those did not rub either.
