Boxster Brake Kit for 911 - Anyone Tried?
I have grand plans for my '74 911, including an engine upgrade in the future, but I've been apprehensive about having as much stopping-power as I have go-power. Just the other day I noticed that our host now sells the aforementioned kit for just $750...I would love to hear from someone who has performed this upgrade as to the benefits/detriments that were incurred. In short, did it work??

ive been running boxster calipers installed front and rear for 5-6 yrs now. just recently i replaced the front adapters with the TRE parts. i also installed the 23mm master cylinder. in my case the old master didnt feel right with this setup.
for the fronts i would recommend using the porterfield r4s pads, they dont squeak, stop well and last forever. depending on the adapter for the rear you might need to modify one of the pads. some of the adapters place the rear caliper in a funky position, almost horizontal which would be difficult to bleed and just looks weird, so i went with an adapter that requires a small mod to the innermost pad but leaves the caliper in a more vertical position

I have the standard Boxster front calipers. They fit under 16" wheels but don't think 15".
The fat piston must be the front (first) piston that squeezes the rotor. You may have to swap the caliper bleeders and lines as the Boxster wears them on the other side of the rotor from the 911. If they are backwards they squeal like pigs. If they are in the correct orientation they squeal some with factory pads. But it's not embarrassing. Jeff Alton recommends the Porterfields like Jason. They "feel" stronger than my factory SC brakes but those in the know (e.g., Bill Verburg) say they are not a genuine upgrade. I can't remember the argument but it boils down to the standard brakes are every bit as adequate plus you can cook the 3.2 rotors with the Boxster calipers in aggressive and sustained use situations. On the other hand, there are those that use them in serious driver's education events and they give them a big thumbs up. Also, the kit should come with those spider pad backing thingies to help with noise.

What struts do you have? You must have the 3.5" spacing on your caliper mounts to use the adapters.
I once considered a Boxster upgrade. Instead I upgraded to "S" calipers and added cooling ducts and they work quite well on my 2100 lb car. If you track your car the general consensus is bigger brakes need bigger rotors to be effective. Search for brake upgrades and Bill Verburg if you want to know more about brake upgrades.

Also running Porterfields. Using Boxster S/ 996 calipers.
Like Bob stated had to swap bleeders w crossover lines for proper orientation. Also while doing this swap L & R crossover lines and they will fit easier.
