Re-installing wiring loom –any advice?
I am hoping to get my 1971 RHD 911T back from the body shop as a rolling chassis in time for Easter. My first major job is to re-install the wiring loom or harness. I am reasonably competent with electronics , soldering iron and following a circuit diagram, but I am sure that reinstalling the loom has its fair share of tricks, so any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
My loom was cut at the passenger’s footwell to ease removing, but I was not there at the time so don’t have any images of how it routes or lays in the car. I’ve gone over the loom and repaired any wear I could see, but as the car had no engine when I bought it, the wiring loom is an unknown quantity. It look pretty clean, complete and intact. My strategy (planned anyway) is to lay the loom back in the car as logically as I can and hope that where it goes and how it is secured becomes obvious once I start. If anyone knows of an article or has any images for their own experiences that shows how the wiring loom moves throughout an early 911, that would be really helpful. Even things like where it enters and exists the tunnel would be great. Any help would be hugely appreciated. |
From the engine compartment the harness comes along side the starter area, behind the torque tube and into the tunnel. Inside the tunnel there is a passage in the upper left (as I recall) that the heavily wrapped harness passes through, coming up to your cut..which should have been staggered cut so there wasn't a big lump in one spot.
The front area harnesses are like 3 separate harnesses Good luck.. Bruce |
