Show me your painted calipers
I am currently preparing my calipers for paint. Yes, I know that Powder Coating is better, but I am in a rush to get this done before we complete my garage addition.
Has anyone painted their 3.2 era calipers gold, in order to copy the gold anodizing that came stock? If so, any pictures?

Roland, since you have the big calipers, you could get away with black or red. Unfortunately, if I don't want to look like a total poseur(LOL), I am stuck with gold.

I just did mine in black mostly because I didn't want to worry about taking the wheels off to clean the calipers when they get brake dust on them. I used caliper paint from Autozone and it requires heating at 200 for 1 hour.

You might try Rustoleum Hammered in Gold.
No photo handy but Google should pull up images. Worked well for me. Possibly similar to post above Last edited by 69 Soft Targa; 03-17-2015 at 10:03 PM.. Reason: Changed Hammerite to Hammered |

I will soon be doing my '85 Carrara in the near future. What would be the correct original color? Certainly not the gold in the first picture above.

In the end, I decided to go with a "non gold" look. I know it is not "factory" to the purists, but I like my stuff "plain as day". I call it the "Rolex 'Jubilee' look" caliper.
So I bead blasted them with walnut shells. What a joke! Then I used one of the "oxides" which tore them back down to metal in no time. Finally, they were rubbed down wit "prep-sol" and then slathered in clear-coat. It is a high temp clear, so we'll see how it works. We also did a brake bleed. And this time, we had someone hit the pedal while the Motive-pump was still attached. And it seemed to have worked, as we saw bubbles returning to the reservoir. So, a quick bleed. A pedal pump. And then a final bleed. I'll see how they feel tomorrow. Sometimes when working on these cars it feels like your hands are on "auto-pilot". LOL! Just wanted to follow up. ![]() ![]()
